Freddies and Alfies at Mataikona has been our go to holiday home for the past few years. It's always clean and tidy with a beautiful house that overlooks the dunes and sea. Whether you go in the summer or winter it's always been a relaxing warm and awesome place to stay. Highly recommended 👌

Fabulous secluded and elevated spot with great views of the dunes and surf 50 metres away. Warm and comfortable in April even without lighting the wood burner. Good cooking facilities and a large fridge/freezer. A selection of magazines and boardgames and a nice garden for our dog to explore. We kept him on a long line as the sheep he could hear behind the property were clearly very interesting to a townie dog. We can highly recommend a stay at Freddies - the owners were very accommodating with our booking and last-minute changes. :-) (A word of general travel advice for the area - Castlepoint and Mataikona are further away from Masterton than you may think, so don't forget to fuel up. Castlepoint Store doesn't have fuel anymore but if you are in a bind, there is diesel and petrol next to the Castlepoint Hotel - just not advertised very well. We learned all this the stressful way. :-) )
