About this Holiday House

Chalet Cloudesley All modern cosy facitilies just like home, only better, All bed linen included and beds are made up for you. I prepare our house for guests as if it were a "motel " The house is serviced between each booking, but I appreciate you leave the house as you would wish to find it. Our holiday home is situated within the village facing out to the beautiful views of the mountains It completes a family dream as we have been skiing at Mt Cheeseman Ski Club since 1953 and purchased the plot of land at Castle Hill Village in 1981 at the first stage of the village development. We are direct descendants of the original family who first lived here and operating the Cloudesley Family Hotel and Coach stop during the 1890's Right here at Castle Hill village there are still remains of the grand limestone hotel which sadly burnt down in the early 1900's One of the mountain peaks in the Craigieburn Range , behind the village is named after William J Cloudesley our great grand father and is known as Mt Cloudesley , the Thomas of Thomas River and Thomas Bush is a family christian name. The fifth Thomas Cloudesley {our son} on the 3rd Feb 2009 Thomas was the first of our family to climb the peak to the top of Mt Cloudesley. Our home was completed in December 2006 and purpose designed to be a family ski lodge hence the sleeping areas upstairs on the mezzanine and two seperate bedrooms downstairs. During the past year we have installed an outdoor wood fire heated Hot Tub and extended the outdoor deck area The house has two WC's wash areas and a separate shower room. No early morning delay for the bathroom when we are rushing to get "First Tracks" at any of the handy ski areas. In the winter you may rent the house OR I can offer the opportunity for guests to "Rent a Room". As we use the house frequently you may wish to rent your own twin/king room and private facilities at $80 per room and use of all the house facilities I can even offer you "Dinner, Bed and Breakfast". Being a Master Skier Racer I am able to hostess you to the nearest and best skiing available, some just 20 minutes from the house to the ski area base lift at Porters. In summer time there is never enough time to do all the walks , trail mountain bike tracks , hikes up to the mountain tops, jet boating or 4WD up into the high county. We prefer to accept bookings for 2 nights or longer. The house has all the mod cons including electrical appliances, auto washing machine, clothes dryer, dishwasher , Frig/freezer and Chest Freezer. Air Conditioning Heat Pump, Log Fire, Hot Tub ,Walk-in Drying room for ski gear, Gas BBQ, Sky TV, Excellent cell phone reception and Internet Fibre connection. No need to hire bed linen this is included. There are Duvets on all beds, Bed Linen and towels included. Unlike other rental in the village, our house is Fully Serviced after each guest stay, and all beds are fully made up.

Wonderful views and Alpine climate ,plunge into our Wood fire heated Hot Tub,enjoy gazing at the night Sky "Milky Way". Skiing and Ice skating Winter sports and ski fields are within 15 minutes' drive at Porters Skis Area and Mt Cheeseman. Also Club Ski areas are adjacent with easy road access. in the summer hot clear days there are several lakes and streams to swim Web..This area has a low rain fall and enjoys and almost desert climate Hot warm dry summer days and crisp clear winter days with heavy frosts at night with snow about the house frequently The night sky is something to behold with the clarity of the atmosphere Far away and isolated from the towns and city and from coastal sea breezes. This is a wonderful region being such easy travel from Christchurch city and International Airport, but also right amongst the beautiful high country of New Zealand. Boating on lake Lyndon See all on the Castle Hill Village web site. Winter time is a skiers haven with 4 ski areas within 30 minutes of our doorstep. Porters Ski area, a commercial filed with Quad Chair lift and 3 T Bars and learns area with lift and magic carpet. Mt Cheeseman a Club field , Drive On to field ,x2 T Bars Day Lodge/cafe, and Two Accommodation Lodges, learn to ski area with lift and Ski Hire. Broken River Ski Club and Craigieburn Ski Club both with Rope Tow access from walkup tracks. Mt Hutt Ski area is approx 1 Hours road access drive.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We had six fantastic days there and used them to explore the area from Castle Hill to Otira. We really just scratched the surface - there are such beautiful landscapes that offer endless scope for tramping. June couldn't have been a more friendly and welcoming host. The house was full of character and had every amenity we needed. We felt very privileged to have been allowed to stay in such a magical spot. We'd love to return.

Thankyou so much John and Family . This is our Happy Place and Roots. So much so that the highest mountain in the Craigieburn Range behind the village is name Mt Cloudesley which is in full view from our house. Our family have been offering hospitality in the area since 1890"s as Great Great Grandfather W.J Cloudesley owned the Coach Inn "Cloudesley family Hotel" across SH73 in the trees opposite the main entrance to the village. We are privilege to be to after 100 years. Being a family of serious skiers and MT bike riders it is our Happy Place. We are glad to share with all who come to stay.
