About this Holiday House

Sunny bach right next to the beach. Fabulous spot with golden sand beach, rock pools and roaring surf. There's a big private garden and spacious deck with spectacular coastal views in one direction and relaxing rural views in the other. Basic comfortable facilities: equipped kitchen, washing machine, shower, outside flush-loo, log burner. Unplugged - no TV, microwave, wifi. Kuri Bush is the birthplace of famous New Zealand poet James K Baxter. It is surrounded by numerous walks and points of interest. Well situated on the Southern Scenic Route, Kuri Bush is 35 mins south of Dunedin city centre; 5 mins drive to Taieri Mouth for fresh fish; 10 mins drive to the resort community of Brighton with its swim-between-the-flags surf lifesaving beach, the nearest store and cafe; 15 mins drive to Lake Waihola for recreation and great fish 'n' chips. Fsh 'n' chips at Ocean View, too. Good mobile phone reception to make arrangements for entertainment in lively Dunedin.

This neat little charmer is an old-style Kiwi crib. It is far from new, has an outside toilet, no TV, no microwave but plenty of books and board games and a very good log burner. For value it would be 5 star. Add in the beautiful bush setting, spectacular coastal views, beach etc and the wonderful dawn chorus with tuis and bellbirds more than makes up for the lack of modern amenities. Very good chance we will be back.

From the large deck we sat and enjoyed the kiwiana landscaping and amazing sea views during sun rise. Unfortunately it rained but we enjoyed the board games and books that are available. We stayed one night and enjoyed it.

What a an absolute gem of a place to stay. It was a fantastic place to relax and recharge the batteries. Waking to beautiful views of the sea and hearing those waves breaking on the shore was fabulous. I really recommend staying here - it is only 1/2 hour from Dunedin City Centre along the Southern Scenic route.
