Out to sea, beyond the heads, the illusion of the ‘Two Sisters’ lie head to head as if trapped in time and myth. Behind these, Ruapuke and the coast of Southland appear seemingly from nowhere. The wonderfully varied shapes and colours of fishing boats arrive and depart with the tide. The sun rises out of the sea, the full moon lifts over Lonnekers Beach, and at the suggestion of rain, countless rainbows emerge.
