Whakatenga Cove is magical. The location is remote and beautiful. Private beach with access to kayaks and a dingy. Plenty of fishing, kayaking and swimming. There is an outdoor bath and sauna in the grounds. Everything you need is in the house. Plenty of room and deck with a fabulous view for sundowners. The host Russell is kind, helpful and has some great stories. Thanks Russell, we will definitely be back to this bit of NZ paradise.

Set in the middle of the most insanely beautiful, pristine Jurassic park type landscape with your very own cove this place ticks all the boxes for peace and tranquility with a sense of adventure. The house is large and has everything you need for cooking (even a bread maker so take some break mix) and comfort from soft leather couches to bean bags placed in front of the fire or out on the deck. The breakfast bar of champions at the end of the patio overlooking the sounds will have you reevaluating all that you thought was important in life, until you got here. The wood fired sauna situated in a room with a view over the sounds is a must do. We used the kayaks supplied to fish and gather shell fish, nothing beats muscle fritters on hot fresh made sour dough bread. Russell is engaging and happy to share his knowledge of sustainable off grid living, from off grid power to best fishing spots, pig/pest traps, wildlife and fauna. We did not expect to find one of the best wifi services ever in here due to a 5g tower going in on the back roads.
