Magic! The house is just as you imagine and feels like is been loved by all since its 1860 inception. The bay is stunning, Greg's advice on where to eat and where to fish was bang on - fantastic experiences every step of the way. Coming home to a basket of fresh firewood, the roaring fire, complete with the smell of wood smoke was unforgettably charming.

We so thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and really appreciated being able to take our old dog with us. Special memories. Thanks Greg and Marian - it was a real pleasure.

Absolutely lovely. A beautiful setting, your own private oasis. We made the most of the kayaks and enjoyed the awesome views form the deck despite the rain. We look forward to coming again. 😀

WOW!!! What an amazing place to stay! The cottage is gorgeous. Spacious dining area, with huge wrap-around windows that fold out, giving an outdoorsy feeling indoors. Views out to pond and ducks, fruit trees and finches, ocean. Lovely big, original fireplaces, all lovingly restored. Top quality linen on the beds and super fluffy towels in the bathroom. All the modcons needed for a comfortable stay. One minute stroll to your very own beach, complete with outdoor shower. We wheeled the kayaks (life jackets provided) down and had a lovely paddle. Nicely maintained walkways all around cottage - bush walks and coastal. Glow worms at night! Owner Greg made us most welcome and made sure we wanted for nothing. Even provided our dog with a dog bed! Couldn't ask for more.

Thank you very much Greg for allowing us to share your peaceful setting and tranquility on our wedding day. The outlay of the beach was perfect and the cottage was also perfect to prepare and relax over the 4 days. Our friends and family that camped by the beach were so impressed with the place, they would consider booking here for a peaceful getaway. Your well maintained property along with the timing of a full tide made the moment extra special. You were so helpful in more ways than one, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending your place to anyone, we would definitely be booking here in the near future. Thanks once again to the Innes family.

Wow. What a brilliant place to stay. The cottage was a perfect base, with a decent sized living area that you wouldn’t expect from a two bedroom cottage.
A number of us camped in peaceful bliss down by the water, on the beautifully maintained lawn. Greg was so easy and accommodating to deal with and there was so much to do and enjoy, I couldn’t recommend this place enough. We even got fresh eggs from the chickens and feasted endlessly on delicious black grapes from the vine at the back. If you’re wondering if you should stay here, stop wondering and book it immediately. I’ll definitely be back.

Another blissful stay. The cottage is still just as perfect and charming as it was last year. This time around we were serenaded by a very vocal bellbird which was a real treat. My husband used one of the kayaks out on the bay and caught some snapper which he and dog Seamus say tasted wonderful. Eventhough it was summer, the cottage was very pleasant and comfortable to sleep in. We loved to sit in the sunroom/diningroom area because of the sun, breezes and views plus you can watch the ducks and pukekos frolic in the nearby pond. Go for a walk on the well maintained trails on the property. The Inness' and other neighbours have done an admirable job of making the trails and encouraging native tree growth which in turn makes it a real friendly place for native birdlife. Greg and Marion are such kind and thoughtful hosts and provide the kind of haven where you can just as happily hang out at the cottage and do nothing but enjoy the views, peace and solitude and the birds. Can't wait to come back a third time!

Exquisite location, charming cottage, and warm and welcoming proprietors. Here's what my partner e-mailed a friend while we were there:

"Am sitting in the large open kitchen of a rustic family cottage with big
old fashioned paned windows along two sides that go from ceiling to about 14
inches from the floor.  They trundle open to create an entire open wall onto
a wild garden of various blooming plants that edge a duck pond with its
resident duck and moorhen.  All of this sits in front of a lushly dense
grove of various green trees - and that's just to the left of me!!

Directly in front of me are old fashioned french doors that open wide onto a
wrap around wooden floored porch, that looks out onto more greenery,
including a huge pohotukhawa tree full of its annual crimson blooms.  Known
as the New Zealand Christmas tree, it is full of TUI birds warbling their
weird and wonderful double toned song, and beyond the tree is a private
beach overlooking a quiet inlet, with a double masted sailboat gently
circling its anchor, all just a few coves up from Whangarei Heads.

Could this possibly be heaven?"

A slice of paradise and a very cosy winter retreat. We stayed for a month and could have stayed much much longer. The cottage, grounds and beach are fantastic for a family holiday; our two year old spent hours on the beach and in the gardens. The huge fireplace made the whole house feel very snug at night and the peace and quiet of the surrounding bush was so relaxing. Great for birdwatchers too with a good variety of land and water birds to see. Greg and Marian made us feel very welcome and have decorated, furnished and maintained the cottage to a very high standard. All in all an excellent stay. Thank you!

Parua Bay Cottage is a wonderful mid-winter haven - bush walks, coastal tracks, kayaking and birdlife during the day then cosy open fire and star-watching on the verandah at night (and that's without having to leave the property). It was an ideal place from which to explore the area - Whangarei Heads, mountains, bays and beaches. All the comforts of home, with outdoor adventures on the doorstep. We're truly looking forward to making it back in summer.

Parua Bay Cottage is an absolute gem. We couldn't believe our luck when we managed to find a reasonably priced bach on a private beach but when we actually arrived and saw the location and had our first look at the cottage, we knew that we had found our dream holiday spot. The beach is beautiful with its enormous pohutakawas and our dog had a ball going for a daily swim. The owners have done a wonderful job restoring the land to native, bird filled bush and as for the cottage itself - well, for two people who love old houses, this place was right up there with charm. Greg and his wife have done an admirable job restoring it and retaining the original features without sacrificing modern day comforts. I can honestly say that this place does not feel at all like your standard bach; it feels like you have come home. We loved the decor and it is obvious that time and thought and a good eye for detail have gone into making this place that extra bit special. The owners are really nice and accomodating as well and we so look forward to returning. We highly recommend Parua Bay Cottage.
