Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS (no need for a vehicle): 20 Minutes walk along the beachfront and round the bays will take you to Eastbourne Village, here you will find many useful shops for day to day needs. There are also many many bush walks, from 10 minutes to 10 hours long. Cycling to the light house is fun as long as you dont return in a howling northerly ;-) The Days Bay beach is a nice safe swimming beach all year round. January brings the beautiful Orcas into the harbour - if you are lucky you will see them swim close to shore. The Eastbourne "telegraph" lets us know pretty quick if the Orcas are in the bay. There must be an all right surfing area, as my nephew tells me it is one of his favorite places to surf if the swell is right. Many people fish off the end of the wharf and off the beaches. The Boatshed is open in the summer months on the beach at Days Bay. This hires all manner of boats, bikes and beach gear. If you want to go further afeild: A day trip to Matiu/Somes via the Eastbourne Ferry for a walk around the reserve and perhaps a picnic lunch. A day trip on the ferry to Wellington is well worthwhile. Go visit TePapa, have dinner and catch a show or a game at the stadium. IF YOU HAVE A VEHICLE: Petone is 15 minutes away - shopping/supermarkets etc InterIsland Ferry is 25 minutes away 2 Golf courses within 15 and 20 minutes drive Within 30mins you can be in central Wellington shopping, at the stadium watching the big game (more fun going via ferry), visiting TePapa Museum, dining out at one of hundreds of restaurants, catching a show or visiting Parliament (The Beehive). Approximately an hours+ drive will take you further afield to: (West) Kapiti Coast, beaches, shopping, beautiful sunsets, Kapiti Island sanctuary. (East) Wairarapa: Wineries/winetrails, boutique shopping, garden walks and lots of crafts

Back-dated to periods over June-July 2014, and Sep 2014 Serene, private place to rest and relax, away from hustle and bustle of the city. Private unit downstairs, clean, own entry/exit, self-contained, well maintained, fully equipped. SKY TV, unlimited Wifi, DVD with good selection of movies. Becky has a warm and easy going personality. David is very friendly too. Warm-hearted family. Thoughtful anticipation of our needs. Granted us lots of privacy, but also had nice chats. Offered us lots of valuable advice and useful information about Wellington and living in NZ. Two(2) min stroll to bus stop, 15-min trip to Lower Hutt Queensgate or 30-min trip to CBD. As an option, we also took the 25 min ferry across to Queens Wharf (near CBD). Stayed over winter/spring season, but kept warm, sufficient heaters, dehumidifier, etc. Lovely morning strolls along Days Bay shoreline and spectacular sunsets. Café nearby, overlooking the beach, serving lovely pizzas, weekend band. Stayed as a couple while exploring potential longer-term move to Wellington. Very comfortable and cozy. Will return anytime. Highly recommended. Felt like our 'home' away from home.
Our hosts made it very easy to stay and friendly, situation was ideal and apartment was cosy, bed comfortable with everything we needed.
Very friendly hosts and very comfortable apartment. Easy walk to ferry, but would be nice to be able to see the sea from the apartment.
