About this Holiday House

Absolute lakefront. Absolute bliss. A hidden haven at the edge of Lake Hawea, New Zealand. Stay a night, a week or longer and enjoy the ultimate retreat. The Black Shack is a classic kiwi bach, nestled amongst native trees with world class mountain and lake views. It is an older property that makes lake views affordable! The main house has two cozy bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and a living area complete with fireplace, books and board games as well as Sky TV and Netflix. The third bedroom is a sleep-out separate from the main building. There is a rustic outdoor gas-heated spa bath, a BBQ area and plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view. Please be aware $160 are added on top of the booking for Linen hire & Cleaning.

Special Amenities

This is a unique slice of paradise. There are not many cottages available to rent in such an idyllic spot. You can hear the birds every morning and hear the water of Lake Hawea lapping near the cottage. You truly feel renewed and invigorated after a stay here. Surrounded by native trees, nestled in a corner nook of the lake, John's Creek has its own microclimate. There is open space for kids and adults to run around and bike. It's easy to get your boat in at the marina at Hawea township or with a 4WD directly outside the cottage. Most fabulous location on the lake, had a very restful few days. As mentioned in the description it is basic, bring all groceries you need - matches, tea, coffee etc

Our second getaway based at the Black Shack. Stunning location - seclusion and yet nestled into surrounds. Our family of four enjoy the history to this place and the awareness that many have come before us here. The Bach tells the story, we loved all the photos of families over time who have enjoyed this place. The Black Shack has everything you need, and while we were focussed on chasing the snow each day, staying put at Johns Creek is a fantastic option also. Julia is a wonderful host, super efficient with communication. Thanks for a wonderful spring break.

Neslted on the edge of Lake Hāwea surrounded by native bush and the most stunning backdrop, the Black Shack - a quaint, quiet and snug retreat - invites you to immerse yourself in this beauty. We stayed for a week and made the most of this special location while also managing to score some fantastic days up the mountain. The history to this bach is apparent, black and whilte family photo's adorning the walls telling the story of many others who have the magic of this place woven into their beings. Loved the open fire, the warm beds and attendtion to detail from hosts. A very special family holiday had.
