Was expecting 'rustic' but disappointed with this property on upkeep, function and cost. $135 for a night- gas cooker and beds ok, but no night lights, no hot water/shower and a very scary looking gas fridge. An ensuite cabin at Mt Somers is only $95 a night.

Hi Christine i am really pleased you liked the modern LPG upright Stove, Oven / Griller and 4 burner top - it is easy to use and very practical. the beds are all quality innerspring mattresses - commercial quality and super comfy! there was Hot water but you do have to heat it first with gas - i am sorry you may have been unable to read the instructions on the wall identifying how to use the Hot water shower. the Gas Fridge also runs on LPG gas and has given ice within 2 hours of lighting in the past. i am really sorry about the lights, this has been fixed since and the battery terminal replaced giving a more solid connection from the Solar Panels to the battery. last reading taken was 13.4 volts so all back on track now. I'm also sorry it took over two weeks for you to post this lovely review, i could have advised on the lights if i had known earlier a solution for you. Of course Mt Sumers cabins may be cheaper - they aren't located at the amazing Lake Clearwater. We are in the process of an upgrade of the Aga heating and water heating at the Bach and a new outdoor table and wood burner for the outdoor entertaining area. i will post some photos once its done for you. looking forward to you getting back up to the Bach - thanks for your lovely feedback and useful suggestions..... :) :)

My family and I stayed here over the Easter break and to be honest werent very happy with the state of the bach. Yes it is a basic bach and we know that its not going to be a 5 star hotel as we have a family bach up there that we normally use and is very basic also.. BUT it was not clean and there was a definite mouse problem. There were droppings everywhere. We had to clean everything before use because of this and if there was a cleaner that came in before every booking I feel they could have done a better job. The neighbour even mowed the lawns for us There was very little gas in all the bottles but we bought our own wood to use the coal range for heating as the gas bottle for the heater was completely out. I have emailed my concerns to the owner but have had no reply hence putting this comment on here.

Hello Claire, thanks for your feedback. Our Cleaner was unable to clean the day you moved in due to Easter. We did have clients that checked out the day before you arrived and they loved the Bach and had only positive comments via email and the clients over Easter also had positive comments, I am really sorry if you experienced what you commented on. Three Gas bottles have all been taken to the refill station and two left at the Bach. i am away a lot and email is intermittent at times, so apologies for not replying to your email over the last two days. thanks again for the feedback, i will look into it and discuss with Cleaner. thanks..

Very cool kiwi bach. We loved our stay here and were fascinated by the bunsen burner powered fridge. Very peaceful and amazing night skies!
