THE LOCATION
Accessed via Dyers Pass, Gebbies Pass or Lyttelton Tunnel, Moananui Lodge is situated on the waterfront at the midpoint of Purau Bay amidst a generous, landscaped, securely fenced coastal garden, two kms past Diamond Harbour.
Wander over to the water’s edge and the shelly beach, merely a stone’s throw away from the decking!
THE HOME
With Commanding views from every window, this superb 2 storey 3 bedroom lodge is attractively interior decorated & boasts an extensive decking & new verandah roof.
The perfect place to relax and to enjoy meals with a bit of shade when required & somewhere to sit out even on a showery day.
The lodge has a spacious comfortable living area with a log fire and electric heating if needed. There's a 65in TV & a library of books with many indoor and outdoor games.
The newly updated interior decoration provides a lovely harmonious and interesting environment with quality framed pictures of NZ Artists depictions of native birds & quirky baches.
Extensive new vinyl planking taking in the bathroom, kitchen and dining makes it easy clean and new carpet has been laid throughout the rest of this dwelling.
Appliances & furniture have been upgraded or replaced giving the interior of the house a crisp fresh more modern look.
There is a well equipped kitchen with excellent dining facilities and the three spacious bedrooms feature a king, a queen, a double and two single beds.
Enjoy the changing views of craggy mountains and seascapes from dawn to dusk and a stunning night sky free of city reflection and street lighting.
THE SURROUNDINGS
Purau Bay is a wide, safe swimming, sheltered beach popular with yachties and all manner of water sports.
Frequent ferries from Diamond Harbour take you to cafes, and sightseeing and to explore walking tracks at historic Port Lyttelton and its well known Saturday Farmers Market accessed by frequent ferries from Diamond Harbour only 3 minutes drive from Purau Bay.
Book a harbour cruise, watch and swim with dolphins or explore historic and scenic Quail Island. Cool off in the sea at a variety of beaches and there is endless scope for walking and cycling.
Drive further afield to explore beaches at the more remote Camp Bay with the best sandy beach in Lyttelton Harbour and boogie in the surf! A pleasant easy walk to historic Ripapa Island & its adjacent sandy swimming beach or to Port Levy or visit Diamond Harbour, Church Bay and Charteris Bay via a great clifftop track. A lovely challenging golf course with wonderful views, horse riding, tennis courts, picnicing and a variety of bush tracks can be enjoyed at Orton Bradley Park.
Drive to Port Levy saddle to tramp to the highest point on Banks Peninsula, Herbert Peak / Te Ahu Patiki, 920m, with its stunning 360 degree panoramic views over the peninsula, then continue to Mt Bradley or return to the lodge to relax and enjoy its comfort and tranquillity.
A day trip to Akaroa is a top idea about an hour and a bit scenic drive via Gebbies Pass. On the way visit Birdlings Flat beach for a refreshing beach walk with sometimes big seas & search for gemstones or take a rod and try your luck at surf fishing.
Call in at popular Little River Store for great food & coffee or an ice cream and browse through their always changing Art gallery. . Nearer Akaroa over the hill is Barrys Bay cheese factory, grab some off cuts for a great yummy cheese board. Check with owner to visit and look through his Akaroa holiday home while you are in Akaroa, for another holiday stay idea!
SPECIAL CONDITIONS at Moananui Lodge PURAU
Weekends: Two nights minimum stay.
Long weekends: Three nights minimum stay.
Easter: Four nights minimum stay.
Rates vary depending on time of year, length of stay and number of guests.
From May, Moananui Lodge is available for 3 to 6+ months full rental. This also applies to La Vie En Rose Cottage, Akaroa.
Conservative and careful use of Water is to be observed throughout the year, especially during summer months as Moananui Lodge relies as all Purau residents and holiday home owners, on its rain fed water tank.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinking water to supplement the household supply.
Pets on holiday can be discussed with owner.
Many Kiwi holiday homes such as this one require guests to leave interior and exterior of house in the same clean and tidy condition as they enjoyed on their arrival.
A checklist of house rules is provided in the Moananui Lodge booklet which is emailed to guests once fees are paid in full.
Entry is from 3pm and vacating on the final day is by 12 noon.
This holiday home works on a ”bring your own linen basis” as set out in the booklet.
Hired linen sets can be made available if required at $35 per bed used.
