About this Holiday House

Only 45 minutes easy drive from Christchurch City, you can explore and enjoy the varied natural coastal environment of Banks Peninsula from this superb location. THE LOCATION Accessed via Dyers Pass, Gebbies Pass or Lyttelton tunnel, Moananui Lodge is situated on the beach front at the midpoint of Purau Bay amidst a generous, landscaped, securely fenced coastal garden, two kilometres beyond Diamond Harbour. Wander over to the water’s edge and the shelly beach, merely a stone’s throw away from the decking! THE HOME With commanding views from every window, this two storey tastefully decorated home with its extensive decking with hooded barbeque, has roomy living areas with a cosy log fire and electric heating. A new 60 inch freeview TV and dvd player, a pool table with all equipment, a cricket and petanque set, indoor games and a library of books are provided for your entertainment. Newly interior decorated between Nov and May 2021,the furbishings drapes blinds, wall pictures, appliances, furniture have all be renewed or replaced giving the interior of the house a new freshness and modern look. Check the NZ artist theme of interpretations of birds many of them depicted seen or heard locally. A well equipped kitchen and dining facilities, two bathrooms, and the extensive sunny decking with outdoor furniture make this home extremely comfortable. The three bedrooms feature a king, a queen, a double and two single beds. Enjoy the changing views of craggy mountains and seascapes from dawn to dusk and a stunning night sky free of city reflection and street lights. THE SURROUNDINGS Purau is a wide, safe swimming, sheltered bay popular with yachties and all manner of water sports. Frequent ferries from Diamond Harbour take you to cafes, sightseeing and eateries at historic Port Lyttelton and its well known Saturday Farmers Market. Book a harbour cruise, watch and swim with dolphins or explore historic and scenic Quail Island. Cool off in the sea at a variety of beaches and there is endless scope for walking and cycling. Drive further afield to explore beaches at the more remote Camp Bay, Ripapa Island and Port Levy or visit Diamond Harbour, Church Bay and Charteris Bay via a great clifftop track. A challenging golf course with wonderful views, horse riding, picnics and a variety of bush tracks can be enjoyed at Orton Bradley Park. Drive to Port Levy saddle to tramp to the highest point on Banks Peninsula, Herbert Peak / Te Ahu Patiki, 920m, with its stunning 360 degree panoramic views over the peninsula, then continue to Mt Bradley or return to the lodge to relax and enjoy its comfort and tranquillity. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Weekends: Two nights minimum stay. Long weekends: Three nights minimum stay. Easter: Four nights minimum stay. Rates vary depending on time of year, length of stay and number of guests. From April, Moananui Lodge is available for 3 to 6+ months full rental. This also applies to La Vie En Rose Cottage, Akaroa. Conservative and careful use of water is to be observed throughout the year, especially during summer months as Moananui Lodge relies as all Purau residents and holiday home owners, on its rain fed water tank. Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinking water to supplement the household supply. Pets on holiday can be discussed with owner. Many Kiwi holiday homes require guests to leave interior and exterior of house in the same clean and tidy condition as found on arrival. A checklist of house rules is provided in the Moananui Lodge booklet which is emailed to guests once fees are paid in full. Entry is from 2pm and vacating on the final day is by 12 noon. This holiday home works on a ”bring your own linen basis” as set out in the booklet. Hired linen sets can be made available if required at extra charge.

Special Amenities

Conservative use of water is essential by all guests- more especially during summer months as all properties at Purau rely on their rainwater tanks. Views over the bay and hills from every window. Beach across side road 15 secs stroll at high tide. Fully fenced with attractive garden areas, large lawns, sunny and sheltered, fully equipped kitchen cosy log fire & electric heating, extensive decking area hooded bbq. 2 minutes drive or take the walkway track to Diamond Harbour where a ferry can take you to Lyttelton [10 mins] /ChCh.. visit Quail Island or enjoy a harbour cruise. Even a Pool table avail at house, all equipment provided, children supervised. Freeview tv. Playground nearby at park. Choice of walks, great for cycling, safe for kayaking, sailing, swimming.Saturday is Market Day at Lyttelton so take a morning trip on the ferry.Use your Metro card & Gold cards[+65] free! As this property relies on rainwater tank.... water needs to be used with much care all year especially in summer months... No washing of boats/ cars permitted. a pet on holiday ok after contact with the owner. Moananui Lodge has been built for us and for you to totally relax in a peaceful clean air and attractive environment.

My extended family had a precious four days together at this warm and well set out bach with a stunning view of gorgeous Purau bay. I would highly recommend this holiday home.

Wow, This was the most wonderful place to stay. Beach at the door, lovely house ,clean, comfortable and cosy beds and lounge room. Has everything you need for a great break away. Respecting the water supply was easy , Grandson loved the bucket baths LOL This was one off the most welcoming holiday homes we have ever stayed in and will be hoping to get bookings again very soon. Many thanks Rob for sharing your wonderful house

Two children of primary school age stay FREE, extra adults are Charged $15 night each except in peak time which is $20.00 .Rates sometimes adjusted depending on time of year, length of stay,regular advertised specials, pensioner discounts, number of guests & late bookings can earn a discounted rate.If this one is booked you may like to try my hol home at Akaroa as a suitable alternative for the dates you want .
