Special Amenities

Cissy Bay is a little bay in Hallam Cove, it's a small hamlet with a collection of permanent residences and holiday homes. It is a 30 minute drive to scenic French Pass. The bay has a boat ramp and sheltered swimming beaches. It provides easy access to the inner sounds for fishing, diving, boating and swimming. Boat access to the outer sounds is possible from Rocky Creek which is about 15 minutes away.

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

There are sea kayaks for hire in nearby Elaine Bay, 30 minutes drive South. There are numerous bush walks in the area e.g. 20 minute walk to Kettle Point, Cissy Bay Reserve with original Marlborough Sounds native bush and a Bridle walking track through Garne and Savill Reserve. We have a 52 Ha property at the base of Mount Shewell, about 10 minutes drive away, with numerous tramping options. Te Aumiti/French Pass is a narrow stretch of water that separates d'Urville Island, at the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand, from the mainland coast: http://www.linz.govt.nz/sea/tides/tidal-streams/te-aumiti-french-pass The closest main airports are Nelson or Blenheim which are both 2 hours away.

Great to have the two zones. Jeff was helpful with where to fish etc. Cissy Bay is really nice. Easier to leave a boat down the bottom of the drive.
Response from Owner
Thanks Terri, it was a pleasure to host your family group. Also we can also provide boat parking on our property in Hamilton Bay, halfway between Cissy Bay and Rocky Creek, Admiralty Bay, where there is public boat launching for the outer sounds and d'Urville Island.

Very comfortable. Really have to have both units with the same group. Would not work to have two separate groups. Roosters are a bit of a pain if you have small children. Very tight turn around if you have a boat. I could do it in 6 moves! Nice beach at the bottom of the drive which is very very steep. You will need four wheel drive to tow a boat up the drive. amazing views and very quiet apart from the roosters. Good boat cleaning facilities and fish filleting area. Good fridge and vertical freezer.
Response from Owner
Hi Tony, Yes you are correct in your observation about the cottage and studio, we as a rule do not rent out either unit to separate groups at the same time for privacy reasons. Exceptions would be overlaps of a day only. Apologies for the roosters, we are in the process of moving our poultry to our small hobby farm close by. What size was your boat and length of trailer with same? I can recommend to guests with similar boat/trailer lengths to park on the road below if six point turns are to be avoided. We have a lot of guests with boat/trailers and no one has mentioned needing 4WD on our tar sealed driveway or six point turns. Thank you Tony for the comments and look forward to your boat/trailer length. Jeff.

A group of 6 adults and 1 dog stayed 4 nights over the Christmas period, we all had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed it. The awesome views coupled with the piece and quiet made the whole experience very memorable. We used our boat 3 times and were rewarded with some very good Gurnard. Our only observation would be the fact that the studio unit does not have its own kitchen facilities and so relies on sharing with the main unit for this. However, the studio is very comfortable and has excellent toilet, shower and bedding plus basic kitchen equipment. Thanks very much to Jeff and Caroline for their help in settling us in and also for the much appreciated local knowledge. Happy new year !!
