Formerly residence of the Doctor who worked at the Waimarino Hospital and his family, now one of three accommodation offerings available at Snowy Waters Lodge.
The Doctors Residence is set within 5 acres of parklike grounds with established trees and breathtaking views of Mt Ruapehu. Our location in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island makes a convenient gathering place for family, friends and work colleagues travelling from Auckland and Wellington, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay and everywhere in between.
From humble beginnings 80 years ago, our historic building retains much of it's traditional character with a touch of rustic charm. Four guest rooms (two with ensuite bathrooms) can accommodate up to 10 guests. A perfect size for two families or a small group of friends.
Our large, sunny, north facing open-plan kitchen and lounge features a fireplace, smart TV, dining room table and everything you need to self-cater. French doors open onto a patio with a BBQ, outside fireplace and spectacular views of the mountains.
Safe water filled European style radiators heat the building during winter, perfect for enjoying the selection of boardgames provided. Outside we have mountain bike storage and a bike washdown area, plenty of CCTV monitored off-street carparking, a trampoline, bouncy castle and the Snowy Train (must be prebooked) or ask about our pony parties (extra charge).
Our location up on a hill on the outskirts of town, is private and peaceful yet within waking distance of shops and cafes. We are 30 minutes from Turoa ski area and 45 minutes from Whakapapa.
Ohakune is just 11km away.
We welcome guests to experience the Ruapehu Region and the amazing activities it has to offer, from hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, mountain biking the Old Coach Road, canoeing the Whanganui river or jet boating to the Bridge to Nowhere in the summer months, to skiing or snowboarding Turoa, Whakapapa or Tukino ski areas in the winter months.
Trout fishing is popular here, as is bird watching (the rare and endangered karearea and whio live nearby), plus there’s golf, horse trekking, the Whanganui River Road and plenty of walking trails. Transport to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing departs daily during summer.
Room configurations are as follows:
2 x queen room (with private ensuite bathroom)
1 x queen room
1 x quad room (two sets of bunks)
