About this Holiday House

Welcome to The Back Passage—a bach with personality, not polish. The main house has two bedrooms (queen + bunks) separated by curtain “doors,” while the sleepout adds bunks and a pull-out couch (chat with us before booking if you’d like to use it). The place is stocked for fun: paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, BBQs, board games, beanbags, Xbox, and streaming services. Whether you’re crashing after a salty day or settling in for a lazy lounge, it’s bach life at its best. Pets welcome, sandy feet encouraged, clocks irrelevant

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

Adventure is basically at your doorstep. The estuary (200m away) is perfect for lazy floats, paddle cruises, and stingray-spotting, while the iconic Pataua Bridge is made for bombing comps and sunset strolls. Cross over to the North Side surf beach where the waves pump hard enough that even Kelly Slater once carved it up, or keep it mellow at Frog Town Beach, where little groms can boogie-board and families can sprawl out on the sand. Want to stretch your legs? Taiharuru Beach is just 13 minutes south with wild black rocks, while Ocean Beach (30 mins) brings epic dunes and surf. Keen walkers can hit the Hatea River Walkway (35 mins) or tackle the legendary Bream Head/Te Whara Track (40 mins) for views worth every thigh burn. And when supplies or cocktails call, Whangarei’s Town Basin is just 25 minutes away.
