About this Holiday House

Nestled in the gardens of the historic Tinui Station Homestead you find Rose Cottage, a delightful self-contained cottage for up to four people. The Cottage features two bedrooms, full bathroom, cosy open plan living area with a wood burner and two outdoor areas. In front of the cottage, you’ll find the spa pool under the stars, as well as room to BBQ and dine outdoors. The side porch opens out into a secluded cottage garden - look up! In summer you’ll find trailing wisteria and climbing roses perfuming the air. The garden and grounds are a sanctuary for birds thanks to over five years of biodynamic practices. More than 30 species of bird have been spotted here. From the Bellbird bringing in the dawn chorus, Tui celebrating the sunset and the Morepork closing off the night, vibrant bird life defines the relaxing backdrop of the Estate. There is much to enjoy here in the tranquil surrounds. The immediate garden area is wrapped by a river-stone wall and home to established trees and flowers to charm you. Discover the bustling orchard of plum, peach, nectarine, pear, apple and citrus. Explore further! You will find the twin oaks that have watched over the Homestead since its founding over a century ago. Each corner of the grounds has its theme, from multiple plantings of native New Zealand plants and trees to the Rhododendron and Australian tree corners. The kitchen features all you need to prepare meals. Note that the closest supermarket is in Masterton. Wi-Fi is available and included.

Special Amenities

In front of the cottage, you’ll find the spa pool under the stars, as well as room to BBQ and dine outdoors. The cottage has its own spa pool newly filled for you with fresh spring water. As the water is replaced for each visit, we use no chlorine or residual chemicals. The water is treated with ozone which dissipates as oxygen on contact with air. The spa pool is surrounded by a tall camelia hedge providing privacy and a delightful scent when in flower. Hot day? Take a dip in the salt-water swimming pool set by the homestead next to hedges and native plantings.

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

Further afield, there is much to see and do. Around the corner, walk the Tinui Anzac Walkway up to the Anzac Cross – marking the first Anzac Commemoration in New Zealand in 1916. Look around charming Tinui Village. We are centrally located to Mataikona, Castlepoint, Otahome and Riverdale beaches with a choice of options for swimming (Riversdale is patrolled during the summer season), walks, fishing, snorkelling and sights to see. The coastal walk at Castlepoint and up to the tallest lighthouse in the North Island is a must do. Inland, Rewanui Forest Park offers forest walks with notable plantings of native trees. Tennis court hire is available at Castlepoint. Or play golf at the Castlepoint Golf Course or Riversdale Beach Golf Club. Both golf courses are nine-hole courses – with the option to extend the Riversdale course to 18 holes by playing twice from different tees. The General Stores at Castlepoint and Riversdale also offer coffee and take-aways. Great pub meals can be had at the Whakataki Pub just 15 minutes away.

A beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings and all with the most wonderful welcome and assistance from Hans. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to get away from it all.
