The Shearer's Cottage is part of The Pear Orchard Lodge, a Gold rated Sustainable Tourism Business (Qualmark rating). It is a comfortable and private, newly built, self-contained cottage on the site of an old shearing shed. The cottage comprises a small kitchen, a dining/living area and a separate bedroom (with queen or twin single beds) with ensuite bathroom. The living area has a sofa bed and a small wood fire. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, a mini-oven, toaster, fridge and cooking and dinnerware for up to 4 people. Large multifold doors open from the dining area to a private terrace with bbq. Enjoy the views over regenerating native bush with the Kahurangi Range in the distance. The cottage is designed for guests who prefer a bit more space and privacy, and is ideal for families travelling with children. Parking is available beside the cottage, and free wifi access is available. While purposely rough and rustic on the outside, the Shearer's Cottage is very well insulated and built to a high spec inside. The design is inspired by the local vernacular and refined to blend in with other outbuildings around the farm. The building's shape and exterior interprets the old shearing shed that once stood on its site, with its ramshackle patchwork of old corrugated iron, hand-made carpentry detailing and overhanging roof lines. We are fairly flexible - no smoking in the lodge, no pets without prior approval. Generally check in from 2pm and check out by 10am. As we have a few animals on the farm, we ask that you leave gates as you find them. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like with the animals.
