Welcome to the Cement Workers Cottage — a historic Golden Bay cottage tucked into a peaceful limestone valley, just a short 400m walk from Pohara Beach. Built in the early 1900s, this character-filled cottage offers a relaxed Kiwi bach experience, blending rustic charm with modern comfort. Set among native birdlife with the gentle sound of a nearby stream, it’s a calm and inviting place to unwind. The cottage enjoys a sunny, private outlook with a spacious deck nestled beside limestone rock and a garden that offers both space and seclusion — perfect for relaxing after a day at the beach. This is not a polished new build, but a well-loved worker’s cottage with history and personality. Some exterior elements reflect its age, including weathered paint and original finishes. Inside, however, the cottage is clean, warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped for a welcoming stay. This is not a new build, it is an aged cottage which is its charm. A wood burner keeps things cosy in winter (with firewood provided) and there’s a great selection of books and games for quiet evenings in. LOCATION Pohara Beach is just 400m away — perfect for swimming, kayaking, and long coastal walks. Head north along the stunning coastal drive, passing the dramatic limestone cliffs near Tarakohe, popular with rock climbers, before arriving at the sheltered bays beyond. Just 5 minutes away is Ligar Bay, followed by Tata Beach — both known for their golden sands and clear, calm water. Continue further to Wainui Bay and Totaranui, the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park, where you’ll find walking tracks, kayaking, and some of New Zealand’s most iconic coastal scenery. A short drive also takes you to Tarakohe Marina with its boat launching ramp, a scenic nine-hole golf course, and Takaka township for shops, cafés, and essentials. If cleaning is required, it is charged at $50 per hour, with any remaining bond refunded accordingly.
