A very comfortable self contained holiday house where every effort has been made to try and provide a relaxed holiday for our guests. The house is very quiet and snug - featuring double glazed large windows, insulated walls, ceiling and floor and thick curtains. Wonderful views of the large landscaped garden looking up to distant mountains. Set on two large sections of land and completely enclosed by high hedges. The garden is extensively planted into New Zealand native plants and exotic alpine shrubs. Spring brings tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinth, peony and cherry blossom into flower. The surrounding garden is quiet and full of birds. An outdoor fire pit is a quaint place to meet and chat after a day touring in Southland. Centrally located in the country town of Lumsden and only a short walk to shops, pub, cafes and supermarket. An easy 10 minute walk to the beautiful Oreti River.

Lumsden is centrally located to be within one hours drive of many of Southland's large towns and attractions including Queenstown, Te Anau, Gore, Invercargill, Bluff and Winton. Lumsden is close to the Mavora Lakes, Snowdon Forest, Eyre Mountains and the Takitimu Mountains Conservation Areas. Also accessible is Fiordland with its spectacular scenery and hiking and boating adventures. Near to 35 streams, rivers and lakes, Lumsden is a trout fishing mecca offering endless opportunities for the brown and rainbow trout hunter to stalk fish in sparkling, crystal clear water. Hikers and cyclists enjoy the many tracks and paths the region offers. Families and friends have many choices for day outings in towns, forests and lakes. Oreti River House is only a short 2 minute walk across a large town common (park) to shops and cafes. The large garden offers a quiet place to enjoy a day at home or a comfy base for a day adventure in beautiful Southland.
