About this Holiday House

Beautiful, sunny house at the beach. Ideal for a couple or family of four, Piki Matiti means "long summer” in Maori. The house has very comfortable living and dining, a cosy log fire, sun-drenched window seat, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and 2 toilets. The interior is creative and definitely local. Paintings, craft and ceramics will appeal to those who enjoy art. Home comforts will make your stay so much better: cotton linen, Sheridan towels, Alpaca duvets and wool blankets. Do you enjoy cooking? The kitchen is well supplied with all the essentials. You might also try your hand at the outside pizza oven. The house nestles in a native garden of hebes, flax and rengarenga lilies. Pohutukawa attract tuis to the backyard. Evenings are extra special at Piki Matiti. Relax by the massive outdoor fire with its sofa and big bbq table (seats 8) - then bring out the hurricane lantern to enjoy the glow while you gaze at the stars. 20 mins to Takaka, 8 mins to Collingwood, 5 mins to the Mussel Inn. ** Pet Friendly.**

We've just spent a very enjoyable, relaxing break at Piki Matiti. The bach is perfect and really quiet, located just over the road from a lovely beach and a short drive from Collingwood and the Mussel Inn. It's well set up and clean, with everything you need, including a nicely renovated bathroom, 2 toilets and fully equipped kitchen (with sharp knives!). Ros was really helpful and kept in touch to check everything was ok. Thanks for a lovely place to stay.

Very comfortable and clean. The window seat was great for relaxing. Nice to be surrounded by art and pottery.
We felt so welcome and comfortable at Piki Matiti, Parapara Beach. From the very first communications with Ros (who was so lovely to deal with) through to our arrival at the bach, we'd been so excited to experience our first family holiday with our rescue dog, Ted, and a few days Rest and Relaxation. The cottage was everything we'd hoped for. A favourite spot for me was the sunny window seat for a bit of reading or browsing some of the books and magazines. The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, with literally everything you could need if you're keen to do some cooking. The linens and towels were really lovely quality, and the vintage wool blankets on the beds kept us toasty warm through the Autumn nights. It was great to be able to get the log-fire going in the evenings, which warmed the place beautifully. The house was lovely and clean and everything you could need as a guest had been thought of. Location-wise, Parapara beach is the quintessential New Zealand beach community - I imagine generations of families have spent their summers there at the family bach, mucking around at the beach, taking the boat out, having BBQ's etc, and in the Autumn when we visited, it's probably somewhat more sleepy, though we still came across lots of bach-owners walking their dogs on the beach who were invariably keen to share some stories about the area and recommendations for visits. Golden Bay is amazing - there's an incredible amount of things to do there and the history is fascinating. Our visit to Piki Matiti was just lovely and we'll definitely be back - thank you so much to Ros and the family for sharing such a wonderful and magical place...
