About this Holiday House

The Old Nurses Home (part of Snowy Waters Lodge) was built in 1941 to accommodate staff of the former Waimarino Hospital. We are a unique accommodation and events venue centrally located halfway between Auckland & Wellington.
Set within 5 acres of parklike grounds with magnificent views of Mt Ruapehu, our historic building is full of rustic character and vintage charm. Ten warm and cosy guest rooms with either mountain or garden views sleep up to 30 guests in a combination of double, twin, family and quad rooms.
The open plan kitchen, lounge and BYO bar has three large bifold doors which open onto a huge covered outdoor entertainment area. This is a fantastic space with a BBQ, brazier and covered outdoor seating for 40 people offering a relaxed, fun atmosphere, perfect for your friends or family reunion, company function, wellness retreat or birthday celebration.
Inside we have a laundry, drying room for ski gear, two bathrooms each with three showers and three toilets. Outside we have mountain bike storage and a bike washdown area, plenty of CCTV monitored off-street carparking, a trampoline, bouncy castle and the Snowy Train (must be prebooked) or ask about our pony parties (extra charge).
If you have more than 30 guests you can add on The Doctors Residence (see listing 11163) or the Matrons Quarters (see listing...)
Safe water filled European style radiators heat the building during winter, perfect for enjoying the selection of boardgames provided.
Towering gum trees, enormous oaks and colourful gardens surround your accommodation, making it private and peaceful, yet within a 10-minute walk of Raetihi’s main street cafes. We are 10 minutes from Ohakune, 30 minutes to Turoa Ski Area, 45 to Whakapapa.
The ski season is our busiest time, however the three-day Whanganui River canoe journey is fast becoming our most popular summer activity. One-day jet boat tours and mountain bike rides to the Bridge to Nowhere are also available. Transport to the Tongariro Crossing departs from our doorstep daily during summer.
Trout fishing is popular here, as is bird watching (the rare and endangered karearea and whio live nearby), plus there’s golf, horse trekking, the National Army Museum, the Whanganui River Road and plenty of hiking trails.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be supplied to make your stay as hassle-free as possible. Alternatively, bring your own supplies, you will find everything you need in our well-equipped kitchen. Room configurations are as follows:
4 x queen rooms (one queen bed)
1 x family room (one double bed plus a set of bunks)
