About this Holiday House

Located on a 5th generation family farm in peaceful Patearoa, Central Otago, ‘The Cottage’ will immediately pull you into the simplicity and comfort of country life – a quaint, peaceful, relaxing escape. ‘The Cottage’ is the ideal place to rest, recharge and reconnect. Perfect for couples’ getaways, family holidays, gatherings with friends, or accommodation while doing the Central Otago Rail Trail. Dogs and horses are welcome and an airstrip is available for those who wish to fly in/out. 'The Cottage' was built over 100 years ago for Fred and Violet McSkimming and was crafted from mud bricks that were made onsite. It has recently been lovingly restored inside and out so it can continue to be used and enjoyed by future generations, friends, family and visitors to the area. Basking in the sun and restored with holiday makers in mind, the charming cottage offers endless ways to relax and unwind. From enjoying your morning cup of tea or coffee on the veranda while soaking in the views, to enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sun go down, playing board games in front of the cosy fire, streaming a movie, or taking in the spectacular night sky on a clear evening. We welcome our guests as we welcome our friends and family – with home baking and supplies for a delicious continental country breakfast. If you’re looking to get out and explore the area, there’s plenty on offer: - The Patearoa Golf Course is directly across the road - There’s a lovely walk up the Sowburn river to Dykes Dam – a well-known local swimming spot, perfect for picnics and gold-panning too - Lammermoor Whisky and Gin Distillery is just a short drive up the road - There are a number of great fishing spots. Let us know if you're keen and we'll point you in the right direction - Naseby is a 20 minute drive away and offers curling, golf, night sky tours, mountain bike trails for all abilities and luging - Hike, ride or drive through the mountainous high country land of Oteake Conservation Park - The Central Otago Rail Trail is accessible via a 10min drive to either Waipiata or Ranfurly - Visit some (or all) of the quaint country pubs in the area for a tasty lunch, dinner, or refreshing beverage.
