A nod to years gone by. This wee hut has candles and a battery radio, so come with your phones charged as there is no electricity. Play cards, read a book or just enjoy looking out over the pastures. Later cozy up to watch the sun set on the mountains and at night the stars shine brightly. The Old Shepherd is located 8km north of Masterton on our family farm. In 2023 we celebrated being here for 100 years. Standing on the front step, you can see the La Gra Vineyard and just beyond the old red barn is Wingate Lane which offers casual dining Wed-Sun. Loopline Olives welcome visitors for oil tastings and only 15 minutes up the road is the Pukaha Mt Bruce National Wildlife Centre where you can get to see the white kiwi. There is a gas cooker so that you can make yourself a brew (tea, coffee and milo provided) and an icebox for your beverages. Just behind the hut, the modern outhouse is equipped with a flushed loo and a hot gas shower. We provide your linen and towels.
