We had a wonderful mini getaway with our two dogs. Kay was very helpful and easy to get in touch with and had prepared fresh home made bread and picked fruit for our stay. The hosts live in a cabin up a hill, so while the house is private, they are easily available for tours and pizza-oven tutorials.
Our highlights were all the bird-life, walking the dogs down to explore the stream and have a little swim, and walking through the orchards trying to spot all the fruit. Next time we'll take the opportunity to have a tour!
There was a small area fenced for dogs which was perfect for us so that we could leave them outside for short periods of time without having to watch them. When exploring the wider area, it's important to make sure they don't wander off to a possum trap but Kay was careful to warn us where these were.
For dog owners, Oakura beach is only a 10min drive away and was so quiet and dog friendly at this time of year. Note that they are not allowed on the beach in peak season (December and January between 9am and 5pm), but as we were there at the beginning of March, it was perfect and hardly anyone around. Great spot for kayakers and kids on boogey boards.
