About this Holiday House
Looking to escape the confines & stress of the city, less than 1.15 hours drive from Auckland…..
Ta Arai Barn sits within a simple little paddock surrounded by a working farm it was once a part of. This spectacular 2 acre hilltop property straddles the TeArai and Mangawahi boundary.
The sheer beauty and quieter pace of the TeArai/Mangawhai hinterland, (sometimes referred to as NZ’s equivalent of Byron Bay) has created a destination in its own right, surrounded by lush farms while retaining easy access to pristine, unpopulated beaches Pacific Beach, TeArai, Forestry and Mangawahi’s Ocean Beach.
Te Arai Barn offers a real alternative option to the traditional holiday bach, in that it’s unique position allows access to the great surf beaches of Te Arai and Forestry without having to navigate sometimes congested Mangawahi village and access to the Te Arai Links golfing facilities yet is only a 5 minute drive if you are looking for a great coffee.
The vibrance of the Mangawhai Village is a short 5 minute drive which hosts the popular cafe Bennetts, The Cakery, Rise & Grind coffee caravan and the renowned Village Butcher & Pipi Gallery.
Mangawhai Heads offers additional eateries, Brewed As Collective, renowned Gringas Mexican, BK’S Sushi, Mean Brgr, Wood Street Freehouse for local brew & Pizza.
The village markets at the hall and tavern are a must see on Saturday morning, offering coffee, pastries, cheeses, delicacies and organic produce. Take time to browse the collective and creative works from local artisans as well as curated fine goods and new collectables.
Te Arai Barn is a perfect balance of warm rustic elements and high ceilings, from its oiled Macrocarpa weatherboards and over sized barn doors to its polished warm brown concrete floors and bespoke fittings and finishes, resulting in a organic warmth. It is a peaceful and intimate, soulful haven, just perfect for those wanting to enjoy the best of the region.
Stretching out below the mezzanine level is a generous open plan living and dining area, a Warmington Studio wood burner is welcoming in the cooler months.
By day the house is awash with natural light and by night, carefully considered lightning creates a delightful and moody ambience. The galley kitchen is fun space to create your easy to prepare or more formal meals.
Raw timber columns are a stunning feature of the outdoor dinning area with 8 seater inartisan dining table leading to the main lawn invites guests to settle in and soak up the stunning sunset vista across the valley below.
