About this Holiday House

Paisley Cottage is unique Retro/Heritage accommodation from a bygone era. It was built in 1885 one of the oldest cottages still remaining Whilst retaining the original features the cottage is cosy and comfortable. We recommend 3 adults however if you have 4 and believe it's a good fit please ask We have renovated but we have made no effort to make it look NEW It is from a time when the pace of life was much slower the walls are the original wood the ceilings are high the bath is deep the old fire place is still there most windows are original except for double glazed doors in the lounge and the large window in the bathroom. The hallway has the original wall paper from 1885 it is rather gorgeous. The house is eclectic cosy comfortable quirky retro full of books DVDs games and interesting furniture and pictures the vibe is old school and unique. If you like us relish something that does not look like every other house then you will be right at home and love it. (NB If you are into modern sleek buildings this will not be the holiday cottage for you..there are lots fab new places in town ) The lounge is spacious and has plenty of seating and has a cosy log fire in the original fireplace which housed a coal range. This is the main form of heating. We don't have wifi but there are plenty of books and games. We do have a dvd player but a number of movies but feel free to bring some of your favourites.Major cell phone companies usually have good reception. Spark has a really good deal at the airport and is open 8am onwards. The dining table in the kitchen is large and will easily seat your group. The kitchen has a kitchen range and oven and though retains the old fashioned feel has what you're looking for to prepare your meals. We also have a portable gas heaters to keep you warm these are secondary forms of heat and not to be used for prolonged periods .. It is important all safety standards are observed we thank you for your co operation ie turn heaters off when going to bed never use them in a bedroom or where someone is sleeping use only when the room is well ventilated .further instructions are in the house manual. Our bathroom though renovated is in the traditional style and has a very deep old bath.with shower over... perfect for a soak. Just a note we do not have instant hot water but we do have a very large tank. Safety tip please use the nonslip mat in the bath and for those people who aren't very mobile please note the bath is heritage so very high and very deep. For those less agile getting in/ out could be problematic please ask if you are concerned for clarification. There is also a step into the bathroom through a narrow doorway. Whilst we have no special ski room we have provided an area in the kitchen where you can store skiis wet jackets and boots to dry. We ask you please to not store them in the entrance hall as the carpet is woolen and not waterproof. Both bedrooms have electric oil heaters and all beds an electric blanket. You will find plenty of extra duvees and blankets. The front verandah is a great place to relax there is an antique chaise lounge in a sunny closed nook.we do have outdoor furniture in the front garden and there is a small sunny courtyard at the back of the house. We find the walk to town reasonably quick depending on your fitness level. We welcome children but do not have any special arrangements ie cots etc ie our house hasn't been child proofed and therefore up to the parents to ensure your precious youngsters are ok. Please enquire. Snowy our rescue pet lives on the property but has her own accommodation and the neighbors feed her. Feel free to give her some love if you are a cat fan. NB She does not need to be in your space unless you are inclined. Update snowy has been adopted by the family across the road but still wanders around our grounds etc as cats do lol Although we usually only take 3 guests we are happy to answer questions We like to treat each visitor individually.. The twin room is best suited to one adult two children or two EASY going adults ask if you think it might work for you. We look forward to hosting you on your summer or winter vacation and if you are looking for a unique traditional cosy old home this is the place for you. If you are more in favor of the streamlined new and modern house this is perhaps not the place for you Sorry we are unable to host parties or events in this small heritage cottage Please we value good communication so if you have a question concern please don't hesitate to contact us. And do ask questions We will send you lockbox details and relevant ?? prior to your stay... check-in is 3pm and check out 10am unfortunately we cannot change these times unless approved in advance by the owner. Bon voyage and safe travels Kind regards Maria

MAUREEN SMITH
House was exactly as described. Very quiet location. We loved the peaceful, shady front garden, ideal for relaxing with a cuppa and a book. Can recommend the coffee/ice cream caravan in centre of Methven with bean bags to relax under the trees. Thanks!
Response from Owner
Dear Maureen we are glad you enjoyed your breakaway in our wee town Thanks for being such great guests Kindest regards Maria

Cute and quirky house, tidy and clean. Owner has done a really good job of telling you what to expect in terms of the house and how to enjoy your stay. Was perfect for our family of 3 at the tail end of the ski season. The heaters were very effective and we warm even on a cold evening. Would happily stay again.

We believe we charge very reasonable rates This is a very old cottage built in 1875 we love it however if you like smick new please this is not the place for you. We wish our guests to have a lovely holiday make yourself at home and treat the house as you would your home ie clean up wash dishes etc and leave it tidy when you depart. To be as green as possible enjoy the wood fire heaters etc when you go out please turn electric and gas heaters off .. We may sometimes request a bond of $100 We find the vast majority of our customers have been absolutely delightful and happily transfer the bond immediately back on departure. This covers the occasional breakages or excessive cleaning required.
Sometimes these slipups occur.
Depending on the season we are always happy to discuss discounts for longer stays..We have a maximum of four people but we realize family holidays can be complicated also happy to discuss individual needs why not ask.. Each additional guest after two is $25.

For insurance purposes it is essential we have the accurate number of guests please let us know if.there is a variation
kind regards Maria
