Historic Cottage located in Ophir, right in the heart of Central Otago (15 min drive to Alexandra , 90 min drive to Queenstown and Wanaka) this delightful late 1800's Stone & Mud Brick Cottage presents with old world charm. Peaceful and magical, Ophir is an historic former goldfields village at present enjoying a resurgence with the popularity of the central Otago rail trail (2 Kms). In the village Pitches Store, Cafe & Restaurant, situated in a lovely restored stone building offer excellent coffee and dining, and Blacks Hotel serve superb pub meals. Also, The Barn Ophir an interesting Vintage and Collectable Shop opens during weekends in the summer for a great fossick. Ophir's outdoor swimming pool is available to visitors during the summer for a $2 donation and Tennis Courts, Golf Course , Muddy Creek cafe and takeaways and a 4 Square Supermarket are available in Omakau 2kms from Ophir. The Manuherikia River has excellent trout fishing, and along with gold mining, historic villages, fishing in the local dams, pleasant walks in the thyme covered hills, biking or walking on the rail trail and abundant cafe's and vineyards this area has much to offer visitors.
