Muriwai Sunset Retreat is a peaceful holiday studio/apartment located above Muriwai Beach on Auckland’s rugged West Coast. Tucked away in a quiet and safe cul-de-sac and within walking distance of Maukatia Bay (Maori Bay) and Muriwai’s iconic black-sand beach — or just a few minutes’ drive if you prefer. The open-plan studio offers a cosy, homely beach vibe, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Air conditioning keeps the studio warm in winter and cool in summer. The studio features a comfortable queen bed and a couch that converts into a spacious sofa bed. The kitchenette includes an oven, a small fridge (no freezer), and is well equipped with essential kitchenware. The bathroom has a shower and washing machine. Your stay includes fresh bed linen, bathroom and beach towels, complimentary toiletries, and Wi-Fi. With its own private entrance, the studio is located beneath the owners' home. A small, friendly dog also lives on the property and might stop by to enjoy a pat. You may occasionally hear normal household sounds or doggy paw-steps, however we are very mindful of our guests' comfort and strive to provide you with a peaceful and relaxing stay. Guests have exclusive use of the outdoor patio, complete with a BBQ, outdoor table, and chairs— perfect for enjoying meals in the fresh air. Step outside and enjoy beautiful native bush walks directly across the road, or take in sweeping coastal views just moments away. The soothing soundtrack of rolling waves and birdsong creates a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, while the absence of street lighting makes for spectacular star-filled nights. There is plenty to enjoy in Muriwai, including the stunning gannet colony at Maukatia Bay (in residence from August to March), surfing, swimming (please swim between the flags at the main beach), kite surfing, a round of golf at Muriwai Golf Club or lunch at their cafe, horse trekking, scenic bush and coastal walks, and the Good From Scratch Cooking School. Or simply relax, breathe in the fresh sea air, and recharge in the beautiful natural surroundings. Located just 43 km from Auckland City, Muriwai feels a world away while remaining easily accessible. Please note that Muriwai has seasonal food outlets only. We recommend stocking up on groceries and drinks in Kumeu or Waimauku before arriving. The property is strictly non-smoking, both indoors and outdoors. To respect our lovely neighbours, we kindly ask guests to observe quiet hours after 10:00 pm.
