Muriwai Sunset Retreat is a peaceful, self-contained studio located above Muriwai Beach on Auckland’s rugged West Coast. Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, the studio is within walking distance of Maukatia Bay (Maori Bay) and Muriwai’s iconic black-sand beach — or just a few minutes’ drive if you prefer. Step outside and enjoy beautiful native bush walks directly across the road, or take in sweeping coastal views nearby. The soothing soundtrack of rolling waves and birdsong creates a deeply relaxing atmosphere, while clear nights offer spectacular, star-filled skies free from street lighting. The studio has a cosy and homely beach vibe with a queen bed, kitchenette, bathroom, and washing machine. There is a small fridge (no freezer). Fresh linen and towels are provided for your stay, along with Wi-Fi, toiletries, and essential kitchen items. With its own private entrance, the studio is located beneath the owners’ home whilst maintaining guest privacy. There is a patio for guests' use only and outdoor furniture. A small, friendly dog also lives on the property and will most likely stop by for a pat. There is much to enjoy in Muriwai including the stunning gannet colony at Maukatia Bay (in residence from August to March), surfing, swimming (please swim between the flags at the main beach), kite surfing, Muriwai Golf Club, horse trekking, bush and coastal walks and the Good from Scratch Cooking School. Alternatively, simply relax and recharge with fresh sea air and stunning natural surroundings. Just 43 km from Auckland city, Muriwai feels a world away while remaining easily accessible. Please note: We recommend guests stock up on their food and drink supplies in Kumeu or Waimauku prior to arrival as Muriwai has seasonal food outlets only. The property is non-smoking inside and out, and quiet hours apply after 10pm as we have lovely neighbours.
