About this Holiday House

Named in honour of the Royal Hotel that once stood on this property dating back to the 1860's the "Hutel" is a charming, quirky "tiny home away from home". This is a self-contained ensuite studio - wood interior, it has a king bed and basic cooking facilities. There is a lovely little deck, semi-surrounded by native bush but also outlooks to the quiet main road of Okarito - watch the comings and goings of this eclectic village, or retreat to your hideaway. (available from July 9th - photos coming July 3-4)

Fabulous studio cabin, everything you could need is there, small but very functional kitchen setup, good shower and comfy bed. In a perfect location close to lagoon and beach, super private and peaceful. Paula is lovely and extremely helpful, with lots of local information. Even mountain views from the bedroom window. Highly recommend and will be back!

This is a small but comfortable unit with a very comfortable king bed. Was clean and well presented upon arrival. Limited cooking options were a downside but luckily we were able to use the kitchen in another unit. Has a double hot plate, microwave and a small benchtop broil oven. The shower and basin are small. Could also have been improved with screens on at least one window to allow a breeze into the room but keep out the sandflies and mosquitos. We very much enjoyed our stay in the area with great walks and scenery.
Response from Owner
Hi Paul, thanks for coming to stay. Yes, the Hutel has limited cooking facilities, but generally suitable for a couple of nights. For our longer stay guests in particular we arrange more kitchen space next door - especially good for more floor space. And yes, we have a standing order for screens next time the "screen man" comes to town (but that's only once a year! such is life in a small village) - but we are aware the the mozzies have been active in the evenings - so we will see what we can improvise to help make it more comfortable!

Great place to stay. Had everything we needed. Only thing maybe an extra rol toilet paper would have been handy.
Response from Owner
Thank you so much for the kindly review and whoops about the toilet rolls! we've always got extra nearly everything and could have popped down with a few rolls but I have stocked up for the next guests :) So pleased you enjoyed your stay in Okarito.
