Special Amenities

Kanuka Hill is the perfect quiet and relaxing place to disconnect from technology and enjoy a relaxing break to reconnect with your whanau and friends. Relax and enjoy an evening soak in the outdoor bath taking in the sunset or night sky. Solar panels with battery storage supply your electricity needs, the building is not connected to the electricity grid! A log-burner provides the heating for your stay during cool weather with free firewood. Cooking is via a modern gas hob, and a Ziggler and Brown hooded barbeque takes care of roasting, baking, even bread and muffins come out well! BBQ cookbook provided. There is plenty of level onsite parking for cars, boats and trailers. The owners' interest in re-using and upcycling natural materials has created a stylish and unique property. For example the building was designed to incorporate a rescued curved Rimu staircase from Christchurch. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms plus a small loft room with skylight. Master bedroom has a queen bed and ensuite. The 'tree room' has a double bed, the third bedroom a double bed. The loft room has a single bed, a favourite for kids and those who snore! There is a foldout double sofabed in the lounge for the overflow or alternatively a double bed in our caravan can be used by arrangement if available. Bathrooms are clean, new and modern. There is no TV reception so relax the old school way with an excellent old style stereo that plays CD's or connects to your device via an auxiliary jack and there are plenty of books and games. There is a TV screen with a selection of DVD's or you can plug in your own device via HDMI cable. Enjoy walking, mountain-biking, fishing, golf and all the attractions of Kaikoura. IMPORTANT Access to the property is via a gravel road through a working farm. At times there may be gates or tapes to open and close depending on where the stock are located when you visit. When booking please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or for more information or help with planning your stay.

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

Local Walks Bring your sturdy footwear. There is a great traffic free (apart from the odd farm vehicle) hard surface walk from the accommodation. Walk back down the drive to the bridge, then turn left and stroll along the gravel road as far as the black gate. Return via the same route. Great native birdlife in the regenerating native bush beside the road. Just under a 4km round trip. Joggers can extend and go out to SH70 and back. A walk up the hill behind gives panoramic views up the coast and over the Kaikoura Peninsula. Just 10 minutes drive from Kaikoura township along with its attractions of mountain biking, whale watching, swim with dolphins and much much more.

We had an absolutely wonderful two night stay at this gorgeous house. What a memorable experience! The solitude is remarkable; you can't see another house or any lights, meaning the night sky is amazing. However, our favourite activity was several long soaks in the outdoor bathtub with on demand hot water and a marvellous view of the mountains. You are also just a very short drive from famous Kaikoura with all it has to offer. We are already planning our return visit which will be at least a full week.

The location of this house is superb! We loved the rural location with stunning mountain views, but also only a short drive (or bike) into Kaikoura. The house itself was well set up with everything we needed for a relaxing long weekend. The outdoor bath was enjoyed, along with the chocolates left for us. Highly reccomend!
