The cottage is delightful, very warm and comfortable, in such a peaceful setting. It's tastefully decorated and well-kept. The views are stunning and we were fortunate to be here in Autumn when the poplar trees were turning golden. For just this it would get a 5 star rating. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped but misses the mark on a couple of items. A pair of tongs would be useful as well as extra tea towels (one tea towel over 5 nights was not enough). Plentiful supply of tea, coffee and milk, plus the fresh fruit, yoghurt, jams, bread and milk were appreciated. The cupboard is very well stocked with plates, platters, mugs, and glassware. There are no guest laundry facilities which wouldn't be an issue if on a short stay. There are no listed laundromats in Wanaka or Cromwell (closest advertised one is in Queenstown). Dirty towels were not collected. No broom, vacuum available either. We were uncertain what to do with our full rubbish bags, as no obvious receptacle to put them in. Lucky we had family in Cromwell who were happy to let us use their laundry and wheelie bins. At $195 per night I shouldn't have to ask for these simple facilities. A suggestion would be to included information like this in the cottage booklet. Wifi is limited! If you use internet frequently such as Facebook, email, and need for work or accessing uni studies as we did, beware it uses the owner's monthly plan very quickly. It would be best to advertise as very limited wifi/internet access or unavailable. The modem was switched off to us for two days/nights. A very friendly fantail comes in through the bathroom window and flys around the cottage. The owner told us about the bird's daily ritual. While it's cute there was bird poo on the towel rail, floor, and my suitcase. The ski 'dry' room door rattles - is heard clearly in bedroom on that side of the cottage. Also the cottage is only lockable from the outside, doors unable to be locked from inside at night. However, if those small points are corrected (rubbish, extra tea towels, better internet, laundry facilities, no door rattle, lockable from inside) I would highly recommend the Rabbit Warden's Cottage to anyone seeking a quiet, beautiful, and extremely comfortable accommodation.
