I don't recommend Rawhiti caves for an overnight stay. Majestic but the roof leaks and there are goats doing you know what all over the floor. Much better to stay at Rocky Ridge! 5 star comfort and the 3 pet sheep on the other side of the fence (and no leaks). Built and cared for with much love and no little flair by Jean. Loved it. You can still visit the caves.

Haven't looked at various holiday properties around Golden Bay, this one appealed to me as it was small (for just me and my husband), in a quiet location , yet within easy access to the beaches: I got more than I expected. The cottage is situated on th hill side , above Moupipi, amongst the bush with views over to the sea. Although it is situated on a farm, it felt as if we were the ony ones for miles(not including the many Tui and Bell Birds). The cottage is "immaculate", with everything that a self caterer could dream of! As experienced travellers, my husband and I have never had a kitchen so well equiped, with basic, ingredients inclding variousdried herbs, olive oil, Balsalmic vinegar, flour, sugar....and the rest. We were only travelling from Norht Canterbury so brought a lot of food with us....however, for international travellers, this kitchen has everthing you would want to create a meal....just add meat and veges! The rest of the interior of the cottage was very comfortable, with an excellent and simple sound system (Blue Tooth YAY!). The garden has plenty of seting space, with an easy to use Webber BBQ. One of the highlights of the garden is the bath..a wonderful place to soak away the day..big enough for two and Epsom Salts provided. The worst thing was..having to leave!

Thank you for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure having you stay with us. Hope we see you here again.
We had an incredible stay at Rocky Ridge Cottage. We've been to Golden Bay many times, and were drawn to the cottage as we have never stayed near Motupipi. The cottage is located in such an incredible setting; the massive hills behind the house demand a sort of reverence, plush with the most beautiful, dense native bush. The view is absolutely spectacular, down across the forest you drive up and through to get to the cottage, across to some rock stacks, and finally out all the way to the sea. Landscaping really sets this place apart from others; it's tastefully done and makes the outdoor area as usable and comfortable as the interior. Jean greeted us and showed us around the place. She is an absolutely lovey woman and her obvious attention to detail meant that the house was stocked with everything you could possibly need. It was tidy to the point of looking brand new, and the beds were very comfortable. She even has heated blankets beneath each bed in case you were cold (though were were not). There is a fire inside that she had ready for us; all we had to do was light the paper and it was roaring. There is also a heat pump that heated the place very quickly if you'd rather. We very much liked the outside covered porch. We had lovely weather, and it was nice to sit and watch the view from there. Also would be nice if you had rain as you'd be able to get a bit of fresh air without having to sit in rain. The outdoor bath is absolute heaven! We sat in it under the stars one night, and had one the next morning. Incredible birdsong and slow moving clouds made the experience out of this world. We loved that the cottage is close to everything; a short drive and you can be to town, a number of gorgeous beaches, fishing for Salmon at Anatoki, or our favourite on this trip, hiking to the Rawhiti caves (just a two minute drive from the cottage). Do yourself a favor and hike to the caves; it is a lot of uphill but through stunning forest and with views out to the sea. I honestly didn't expect much more than a little cave; this should be something everyone who comes to Golden Bay sees. Seriously the highlight of our trip. Thank you again to Jean who made us feel welcome; she really went the extra mile to make us feel like the cottage had been set up to make sure we had a good time.
