About this Holiday House

Located within Onepoto Village - 4 minutes walk to Lake Waikaremoana - the jewel of the Urewera National Park. This is a notable area for fishing, hunting and tramping. Onepoto is the entry point to the Great Walk and is close to a boat ramp and swimming beach. Lou's Bach was the home of one of NZ's most decorated, respected and colourful policeman - the decor is steeped with memorabilia of his time. Is a comfortable old style NZ bach with modern amenities. A log fire-place provides easy heating all year while a conservatory catches all day sun and affords great views over the eastern Urewera ranges. Colourful garden plantings surrounded by native bush attracts tuis, bellbirds and pigeons all year round. This is a remote location and as such water is by tank - usually plentiful but we do request consideration with its use particularly in the event of a dry summer period. The remoteness, also requires that guests leave the place tidy on departure please ...a clean kitchen, quick vacuum and (really important) removal of all rubbish is all that is required and this obligation is factored into a below-market pricing. Do note that conservation values dictate a ban on cats and dogs within the Urewera National Park.

This is a truly iconic Kiwi bach which remains as much a family home of some significance as it probably always was. A great slice of history on the Uraweras. Plain and simple with all you could wish for.

This was a perfect place to stay before heading out to the Great Walk around the lake. This guy Lou was a true legend and you get a good sense of history around this remote part of NZ. If you are planning on using the kitchen do bring some tea towels as there are none provided. We will stay again the next time we're in the area.
