About this Holiday House

Located in beautiful Vava'u, one hour's flight from Tongatapu. Beautifully presented, small holiday home, with boats included, set in tidy grounds/gardens, located right on a lovely private, safe, white sandy beach. Hunga island is a 30 minute boat ride from Neiafu in our motorboat Falau Lelei. An absolutely stunning location, all embracing, with consistently great feedback received from our adventurous guests. Just a few steps down from the deck of the house, the crystal clear, blue water welcomes you. The water is warm and very safe for swimming and snorkling. Turtles can often be seen bobbing cheekily in the water amongst schools of fish in front of our house. Whales are also often seen outside the lagoon (June to November). Explore the sheltered lagoon by kayak, optimist or Pep'e (3.8M aluminium coastal pontoon boat with 2 stroke 15hp engine, 25 litre tank, rod holders, portable VHF and anchor), and venture out to visit neighbouring islands. Paddle board on the lagoon (2 paddle boards available). Fish off the beach or take the boat out to catch a variety of fish for your dinner. Visit the local village or try local foods and crafts. This place is a fisherman's paradise. Hunga and the surrounding Vava'u area offers a dynamic mix of fishing options. fishing techniques and an array of different species to target. Inside the lagoon is great for lure fishing, including soft plastics, slow trolled bibbed lures, spinning lures and probably any other lure you try. There are many spots as yet unexplored for rock fishing. Use of Pep'e our pontoon boat with 15 HP motor is included free of charge, guests pay for petrol or you can book a day fishing or snorkling upon request. For an additional cost snorkelling, fishing and island hopping trips can be provided in Falau Lelei.

We felt very lucky to stay in this incredible beach house perched as it is on the edge of this idyllic sheltered harbour. So much to do within walking distance of the house or if you prefer you can puddle about and explore the harbour in Mary and Chris' little flotilla of kayaks and sailing dinghys. A couple of hundred metres down the beach close to the 'false [harbour] entrance', you'll find an incredible semi-enclosed coral garden, home to endless species of tropical fish. We found a route up to the western lookout where we saw whales passing (pack your binoculars) and fruit bats fly from roosts behind the house out over the water at dusk. The prevailing trade wind in October is from the east and/or South-east so most nights we had sea breeze blowing into our rooms to cool things down. One'atea is pared back simple island living at its best and Mary and Chris can be relied upon to make your stay painless and memorable.

We were very happy and pleased to accommodate Belinda, Matt, Hamish and Will. Our property manager Barry was delighted to host the them. A carefree, respectful family; really wonderful guests, who utilised all the amenities on offer at One'atea - exploring the local area. Malo; please visit us again soon at Hunga Haven :-)

Absolutely loved staying here while holidaying in Vava'u. A very secluded and peaceful spot with lush vegetation surrounding and ample options for exploring the lagoon. Mary was so helpful with organising boat transfers and general local knowledge. We had an Umu with a local family which was a great was to spend time chatting with locals from the island. Barry the neighbour across the lagoon/manager is an absolute gem. He welcomed us and showed us around. 5 days was not enough! thanks for having us :)
