About this Holiday House

Our cosy renovated 1930s cottage is tucked into the sandhills on Oreti Beach. Just ten minutes drive from Invercargill city centre, yet a natural ambience surrounds you - the scent of the sea and sound of the surf rushing on a broad endless wild beach! The house is sunny and has a wood burner to warm up with on cold days. Located only 2 hrs drive from the inland lakes of Te Anau and Wakatipu, where Queenstown, adventure, scenery, beautiful Fiordland National Park, Coronet Peak and Remarkables skifields all await. Just 5 minutes from the local airport where flights leave for bushy Stewart Island (Rakiura) and other NZ destinations. Invercargill is right on the southern Scenic Route, touring the lovely Catlins and South Coast.

Short drive to town and airport. 2 minute walk through the sandhills takes you out onto the broad sands of Oreti Beach. A great place to walk, bike, spot the seabirds or swim and surf in summer. Just across the strait is bushy Stewart Island and distant inland mountains stand out of the surf haze, beautiful in winter with snow on the far peaks.

Great base to enjoy varied local activities such as the Burt Munro motorbike races (the beach race venue just a short walk away). Bluff Oyster festival in May offers a great range of food and music. The Civic Theatre in Invercargill has many visiting shows including international and the Royal NZ ballet companies. Otatara golf course is very close; Invercargill area has many other golf courses to choose from. Walking and mountain biking tracks to explore on reserve land at Sandy Point, just 5 mins drive away and longer walks with sea views and native bush can be found at Bluff Hill. See the Southland Museum in town for live tuatara display, (a NZ endemic primitive reptile).
