Thanks so much for the lovely feedback Sinead. Very pleased to have been part of your birthday holiday.
My husband and I stayed at Tuki Vineyard Cottage for my 40th birthday weekend in December 2016 (part of a wider 3 week trip to NZ). The cottage itself is in an idyllic location, facing the vineyard and surrounded by stunning countryside. The accommodation is modern, well maintained (comfortable bed and crisp clean bed linen) and is also very well equipped for self catering. The exceptional hospitality shown by the owners Mike and Jo was very welcome; on arrival we were provided with a complimentary bottle of Tuki Vineyard wine, a great selection of breakfast supplies (including free range eggs delivered by the friendly Tuki hens) and an excellent information pack on the local amenities.

The property is perfectly placed to explore this beautiful area of Hawkes Bay being very close to some of the major wineries in the region such as Craggy Range, Te Mata and Church Road (we very much enjoyed visiting the cellar doors while there). There are also some fantastic restaurants close by at Black Barn Vineyard, Craggy Range and Porters Hotel (Malo). With some great beaches in the vicinity (Ocean Beach less than a 30min drive) and stunning views from the Te Mata peak there is lots to see and do. On the recommendation of Jo we also visited the farmers market in Hastings which was a great option for lunch when we left on Sunday.

Tuki Vineyard Cottage is a perfect retreat for a couple to escape to.....our only regret was that we did not have some more time to spend there.

What a fantastic way to end our two week honeymoon around NZ. Finishing the day with a glass of wine looking out over the vines the grapes came from was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The cottage was exactly as described on the website, had everything we needed, and was clean, comfortable and fitted to a high standard. Special mention of the delicious fresh eggs laid by the friendly chickens.

The location of the cottage is great, conveniently close to Havelock North but far enough away to ensure the countryside peace and quiet is preserved. Being right on the cycle path route is a bonus as well, we very much enjoyed our cycling wine tasting tour between the inland and coastal Havelock North wineries.

We had an excellent time, and would definitely stay again. Thanks heaps Jo and Mike!

Hi Tim, thanks for your nice review. I'm pleased you like the marmalade. We've just made a whole lot of mini-jars of Red Doris plum jam for cottage guests as well. Cheers, Jo.
I don't normally post reviews online, but when I became aware of the unfair feedback from Evert, I decided to provide my own review. We had a fantastic stay at Tuki Vineyard Cottage. It is clean and sunny with a beautiful aspect looking straight down the rows of Merlot. The bathroom and kitchen facilities are modern and the furniture is beautiful art deco - fitting in well with the region's famous architecture. The linen was luxury and we slept wonderfully. We enjoyed the breakfast provisions, including home made lime & ginger marmalade. The chickens and the fresh eggs were a treat - I'm afraid we were guilty of feeding them on the deck but they were certainly not a nuisance. The wine is gorgeous - we bought extra to take away with us. The cottage is compact and well organised. It is not huge, but it doesn't pretend to be a lodge! I encourage people to ignore the poisonous pen of Evert and form your own view. You won't be disappointed by Tuki Vineyard Cottage. Tim.

Thanks for the nice review. Nice idea re oil, vinegar and spices - especially for longer staying guests. Thanks for the recommendation.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. This was our second visit to NZ. Liked our 1st stay at Tuki Vineyard so decided to stay a second time. Clean, comfy and very convenient location. Enjoyed looking out over the vineyard, walking around looking for ripe plums, and gathering eggs for breakfast. We were out and about during the day but it was nice to return to the cottage at the end of the day. We cooked dinner a couple of times and the kitchen was adequate for our needs. It would be nice though if the kitchen was stocked with basics like olive oil, vinegar, maybe some spices.
All in all, the cottage was perfect for our needs. Nice to have a washer especially since we were on an extended trip. Would highly recommend the cottage for a couple!

Thank you Jo and Mike - we loved our stay (4 nights) in Tuki Vineyard Cottage at the end of January 2015 - we found the accommodation very comfortable and peaceful with a serene outlook over the organic vineyard. The facilities were modern, clean and tidy, with ample provisions for continental breakfasts and the bonus of freshly laid, free range eggs. We were lucky enough to be able to try some of the red doris plums (an old variety) ready at the time of our visit and enjoyed the excellent red wine that was complementary with our booking. We found Tuki Vineyard Cottage to be very well-placed for access to bike rides in the region and so handy to Havelock North and many vineyards, boutique food producers and interesting places to visit. We look forward to going back for another stay next time we holiday in the Hawke's Bay.

The cottage is less than 50m2, heavy traffic on nearby through road, but gets quiet at nighttime. During the day you have to count on trafficnoise, bed is not comfy, too firm and you feel the metal sprungs, slow internet good for e-mails not for Skype video, outdoor furniture and bbq needs replacement rust and partly broken too, very basic breakfast provisions, no fruits, cheese or yoghurt no replenishment either, very basic kitchen equipment but you can ask for more, poor insulation of the cottage from cool to hot in short time but aircon is working well, nice with chickens as close neighbours (12 meters from the cottage) we made quite some eggdishes but downside is that they come on your terrace with some droppings. You might smell them if the wind is coming from their direction with warm weather conditions. However the chickens and complimentary eggs were a nice experience. It had been worse with other animals.
Bbq was not clean upon arrival but this was well done after we mentioned it, there were a few big cockroaches in the house but this seems to be normal in this area. Dishwasher is not powerful not easy to get everything clean.
Unfortunately they keep some bottles wine in the cottage where temperature easy comes up to 30C. if aircon isn't used. This is something you don't expect of a company that works with wine.
People are friendly and definetely try to help you, nice views to the vines just a pitty with the heavy traffic.
Although we got a special last-minute rate, in our opinion this cottage is overpriced.

Sorry, but I cannot let Evert get away with this. You be the judge...

Evert called us last minute from Tauranga, having arrived into NZ that day but was unhappy with his accommodation in Tauranga.

He claims our cottage is under 50 square metres in size. This disagrees with our architectural plans that show it as 90m2. Not huge but the rooms have great natural light and are clean and nicely proportioned.

He claims the internet speed is slow. It's VDSL rated at 28Mbps. The only faster internet in NZ is fibre. And we're on a vineyard!

He claims the bed is too firm. It's top of the line and it's common for other guests to comment on how well they slept. He says there's poor insulation - it was fully council rated as a new installation in 2005!

We provide complimentary breakfast portion packs of muesli and other cereals, along with vacuum sealed roasted coffee beans, a huge range of teas, freshly made lime marmalade, Vogels toast, natural butter, milk, fruit juice and eggs. Evert's complaint: there's no cheese for his breakfast!

He likes the fresh eggs from our chickens but then states 'you might smell them if the wind is coming from their direction'. You can't. The chickens don't smell. And if he didn't want them on the deck he could have stopped feeding them there and closed the gate to their coop.

He suggests a few big cockroaches are normal in rural NZ. He's right, but we treat the outside of the cottage and it is very rare for any to find their way inside.

Evert complains that the red wine we left out for him wasn't climate controlled. Our wine is stored in strictly climate controlled conditions, but we put bottles in the cottage for guests. It certainly doesn't have time for temperature to degrade the quality.

This sums up Evert: he asked for an international adapter plug even though one was already provided in the cottage. He said he wanted a spare 'just in case the first one fails'.

I do accept that the BBQ gets some superficial surface rust when it hasn't been used in a while. Not sure if this warrants replacement though.

Re road noise, the cottage is in a vineyard over 100 metres from the nearest road, with wineries in every direction. Some road noise can be heard, especially when a breeze comes from that direction. But it's quiet at night and we've never had any guest complain in this regard before.

Bottom line is that we take huge pride and care to ensure the cottage is lovely and provides a great experience for our guests. Many guests return to stay again. We welcome your inspection. I guess we can't complain too much to have only encountered one Evert in all these years!
