Featured in Avenues Magazine as part of the heavenly baches by the sea series! Waterfront 3 bedroom secluded cottage with breathtaking sea and countryside views. Offering a huge sunny deck, private garden and barbecue facilities. The location is quiet and peaceful with an abundance of bird life. The early morning sunrise and ever changing tides add to the magic of the setting. The nearest swimming beach and local boat launching spot is only a short drive away. There are plenty of enjoyable walks and places to explore. Or just kick back and enjoy a glass of wine on the deck! The cottage is comfortable and simple, reminiscent of the iconic NZ bach. (Happily since May 2018 new bathroom installed with the longed for shower over bath-enjoy!)

"Writing this on the sunny deck outside our bedroom overlooking the harbour. The water looks stunning! Fantastic little cottage so close to Christchurch yet takes us to a faraway place. This is our second time here, and we will be back!"

This house was everything we wanted it to be, this was our second visit, so this time the alterations had been done. Very user friendly and such a lovely spot. We will definitely be back. Thank you

We loved our stay at Waterway cottage. The cottage itself was so well stocked with everything you needed, including a bread maker complete with instructions, and was cosy and nostalgic. The setting was lovely and peaceful with the sounds of birdlife and cattle from the surrounding farm. We didn't mind the old bathroom, though the bath was a bit scratchy. A shower arriving soon will be a big improvement. Best of all was being able to have our boy with us (Sam the border collie and fly catcher extraordinaire). He couldn't believe his eyes when a whole herd of sheep were mustered past our front door. And he loved swimming from the wharf for his ball.We avoided the tidal mudflats for obvious reasons. Thank you for the opportunity to share your cottage Janna & hopefully we will get the chance to return soon. A little peace of NZ the way it used to be. Becoming very rare indeed.

Great swimming a 5 minute drive away at the main Port Levy area or at the wharf. There are no shops at Port Levy and no mobile reception - bliss! There is a small superette at Diamond Harbour.
The house is a true bach and is in older, original condition. The bathroom is the only drawback - very old and only a bath - no shower. But the price reflects this and the positives of relaxation and views totally outweigh that.
Would be great for a family. One queen bed. Three single beds in two bedrooms.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Waterway Cottage. It's a wonderfully comfortable and well appointed place with a lovely view out over the water. Being able to open the doors from the living and master bedroom spaces to better appreciate this view and the sunshine or cool evening air was especially great. The only minor detractor for us was not having a shower, but the swimming on offer around at Port Levy off the wharf meant this wasn't a big deal.

Thank you for capturing the essence of a stay at Waterway! The cottage has built up a wonderfully loyal following over the years so maybe everyone might like to know that a new bathroom arrives in May 2018! Exciting! Janna
Oh what a restful time I had here. The French doors which open up from both the lounge and the main bedroom are glorious . The deck is a marvellous place to sit and read and soak up the view. Bird song is a joy and the wonder for a City dwellers watching a farm in operation was an added bonus, I felt like it was “Country Calendar” live.

It was incredibly hot the weekend I was there. A new umbrella stand might be good as the only one I could find was broken . Perhaps I didn’t look hard enough?

The kitchen is well appointed . Excellent TV for watching DVDs and the main bed is comfortable and to open up the curtains early and look out over the water is a view hard to beat.

The only disappointing aspect was the bathroom, which I did find rather awful . I think for this to be rented out it needs to be addressed . It doesn’t need to be super modern but an upgrade is required .

However, the rest of the cottage is a delight.

The owners were really prompt with replies and very friendly . I’d love to stay again. So close to Christchurch, but a world away. Thank you .

Very well equipped with a beautiful view. Llamas and cattle to talk to outside were a rare treat ! Well worth a visit to for a relaxing unplugged weekend. Has to be 4 stars only as the queen bed was very hard and there is no shower, only a bath. Can I suggest a shower attachment be made available as after a hot day wharf jumping the last thing you want to do is get into a bath to wash up. Other than that it was great, thank you!

We have just returned from 5 glorious nights at Waterway Cottage. It was a perfect break, in a superb setting - the view is simply stunning and the cottage so warm and welcoming with so many special little touches (even a breadmaker, complete with recipe). We just didn't want to leave! It was wonderful to escape and have no cell coverage, wifi or phone contact and to just enjoy the beautiful environment, the birdlife, the scenery, the wharf and enjoy proper family time with the children. Oh, I could go on and on. It is just perfect. We can't wait to come back.

Hello Janna,

Just a quick message to say what a wonderful time we had at your bach. It was even more peaceful and tranquil than I hoped it would be - we lost all sense of time and place; it was like a little cocoon of tranquility. You really could be anywhere. We sat in every corner of the garden, trying to trap the last of the day's sun on Saturday evening and we were fortunate the weather was good enough to warrant a refreshing swim in the bay. We hope to stay again in the new year and looking through the experiences scribed in your visitor's book, we will not be the only ones!

Thank you.

A fantastic Mothers day w/e escape on a Girls Art Adventure-an awesome spot, thanks so much for sharing the magic.

This little haven is so special I just keep coming back. I truly love it. This was my first visit in summer so instead of big open fires and long hot baths it was long beach walks and peaceful interludes on the sunny deck with a wine or a book, with wood pidgeons in the fruit laden plum trees, and many other happy singing birds about. The calmness and peace that I feel in this beautiful environment and this nurturing home is beyond what money could ever buy. It is a precious gift. Feel the stress just seep out of you and allow the nature and simplicity to rejuvenate your spirit. Throw open the french doors in the early morning and watch the sun rise. It's magic.
