Idyllically located right on the water at one of Northland's most exquisite and quintessential NZ beach locations, right by the Bay of Islands. This is a kiwi bach & bay that will take you right back to NZ the way it used to be. A safe swimming white sand bay, on a summer's day dotted with boatie's ancient tractors. An estuary & lagoon 'designed' for toddler's paddling. Great diving and fishing literally hundreds of metres off this great coastal beach. Scallops, paua & mussels in the vicinity. A surf beach within 20 minutes coastal walk. The Cavalli Islands just 15 minutes boat ride north and the Bay of Islands a similar distance south. Tapuaetahi Beach is a private bay that is never crowded though only 20 mins from the cafes of Kerikeri.

The house is a real 60's kiwi bach. Just 25m from the broad veranda to the sea, yet very private. From here you can watch the day unfold, or dine & entertain at the large outdoor table. The house has 4 bedrooms that has frequently hosted 2 families. In the bach you will be comfortable & feel at home.

Tapuaetahi is so private it is very hard to find on maps; find a detailed map of Northland, locate the Bay of Islands (BOI), the peninsula at the northern side of the BOI is called Purerua. Tapuaetahi is at the base of the northern side of the peninsula - south of Takou Bay and next to Taronui Bay

Our young kids loved the crabs and the estuary outgoing tide.
Thanks for the lovely weather we loved our stay and have recommended it to other families.

Our third stay at Tapuaetahi just confirmed why we love it. The beach, the estuary, the fishing, the proximity to so many other attractions, and the peace make for a great holiday, whatever you feel like doing (or not doing) each day. This time our highlights included a long paddle up the estuary, some good fishing right in front of the bach, and trips to the Bay of Islands and Whangaroa. Due to fresh SE winds we launched our trailer boat at Waitangi one day and Whangaroa another day (just past the pub), both these are true all weather, all tide ramps and gave us great days on the water despite the weather. We love this spot and bach strikes a great balance of relaxed informality while still having everything you need, like a hot shower, lot's of freezer space and a perfect place for an evening BBQ. Thanks again!

We booked from afar, never having seen this bach or its bay, but attracted to its remote location and rustic charm. We loved our three-day stay over Easter weekend, the only regret being we had to get back to reality and Auckland on Monday. This is indeed an unpretentious, old-timey place, but with a few modern comforts including a French press coffee maker and milk frother, a flat screen TV, dvd player and even a selection of dvds.

But the best, aside from the friendly and helpful owners, is its fantastic siting with spacious veranda, lawn with a bench and tables right by the water, and private views across to the lagoon on the far side of Taronui Bay. With, of course grand large pohutukawas framing the view.

This is a very special place - Thanks John and Liz!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The oceanfront property is private, peaceful and beautiful. The gorgeous turquoise water and white sand beach is just a few minutes walk away. We had a lot of fun using the kayaks, walking the sandy beach and viewing the stingrays that were in the estuary. As well, there are beautiful walks and waterfalls in Kerikeri that you can enjoy as an extra excursion. The house has all the amenities you need, and there are lots of bedrooms to fit a large group, and lots of windows to fully enjoy the view. A trip to 90 Mile Beach is also a great full-day excursion if you are in the mood. I only wish we could have spent more time there. Thanks John. We had an awesome time!!! See you again soon.

If you are looking for a true unspoiled touch of Kiwi paradise, then book this place for your next holiday. Secure and private nestled in a small private friendly community, the Tapuaetahi bach has everything you need to enjoy the beauty of its surroundings. Overlooking the magical bay, light the fire and settle into the sunset after a day of swimming, exploring, diving and fishing, all a stones throw from the front yard. 4 bedrooms give you plenty of room. We accommodated 2 couples, a single mum and an 8 year old with plenty of room to spare. Bach has an excellent gas cook top and electric oven. BBQ is perfect for those evening meals outside. Launch your boat from the beach and pick any of the recommended spot. The owner is very helpful and will provide you with everything that you need to ensure a wonderful and comfortable stay. We are definitely coming back to this little gem for sure.

Our second stay at the bach was even better than the first. We loved the peace, the warm setting sun at happy hour, the surf, the fishing, walks on the beach and being so close to the pristine ocean. We saw dolphins and rays from the lawn and caught snapper and kingfish nearby from the boat.
Our kids enjoyed the kayaks and the estuary, and exploring the rocks in front of the house. A great old-fashioned family holiday - not luxurious but relaxed and easy with the BBQ, and the outside fireplace it feels like camping, with a 'fridge, a freezer, a hot shower, and privacy. We'll be back!

The house is well equipped, comfortable and really well set out for families or couples, the deck is where you wil spend most of your time enjoying the view or just chilling out having meals and drinks.
We had great weather and only went inside to cook and sleep, if the weather did pack it in the house is plenty big enough to keep everyone happy and entertained.
We will definitely be back in the near future.

We hadnt heard of Tapuaetahi before we found this bit of paradise and now dont want to go anywhere else, its just gorgeous. Private, secluded, and everything a holiday should be. We love to dive and fish and there wouldnt be a better playground in NZ for this! Launching right off the beach and crayfish, snapper, king fish, scallops, game fishing (the lot) right at your back door. Its perfect! The bach itself is everythig a kiwi bach should be! We love it and like we said, we're goin g back and will continue going back for quite some time (probably until we get our own bach!)

I understand that this place is historical for the owner, but it is unfortunately old, dirty and needs lots of love. and the advertisement is not so correct, the so called toddler pool lagoon is full of stingrays, and the beach is not a tropical like beach it is more like any other ordinary beach with small waves. If you have a boat you will have fun. we had an unfortunate weather and if you have that, there is nothing that you can enjoy inside the house. also want to mention for the newcomers, your water source is rain water filled tanks, it is not written in the websie. honestly for the lower daily rate this house is so-so but it doesnt deserve the high rate price.

FIVE STAR RATINGS of this bach have been given by EVERY OTHER RENTER who has added a comment on this website - just read all the other glowing comments to get a fair assessment. Unfortunately Erinc travelled a long way with a large family group to the 'winterless north' to esperience a week of terrible wet weather in the week before Christmas which we all expect to be fine - I was disappointed for him and kept in touch with activity suggestions & weather reports as it was meant to get better but didn't - with 6 people in a bach in such weather it is not hard to get cabin fever - an experience not shared by the other 9 renters. What others see as a 'classic kiwi bach' (1960s - right down to the brown carpet - see photos), Erinc sees differently - he is from overseas and it seems had different expectations - thus his comments about 'rainwater filled tanks' as the water source - this is standard for most baches - we filter our drinking water twice - most don't filter at all with no health hazzzard. Despite 'classic kiwi bach' we have modern appliances - brand new German gas hobs/electric oven, Freeview TV, breadmaker etc. Having rented ourselves we take cleanliness very seriously. If you want a special out of the way location with 'NZ the way it was' then I am confident you will be adding a comment like all the other renters who have rated this site.

Fantastic - this is a place that has something for everyone. Our party ranged from teenagers to retirees. The location is perfect - if we were feeling lazy then we would sit on the deck or grass and be enthralled by the ever changing view of the bay. When we were too hot it was a 2min walk to the beach for a swim & a lie on the beautiful sandy beach. When we had more energy we would kayak around the bay or up the inlet and be amazed by the diverse wildlife along the way. When we wanted dinner then we would catch snapper literally a few minutes away from the bay. Boat launching was safe as the reef in the middle of the bay virtually minimizes any ocean swell. We all had a wonderful time and would love to come back.

We had a magical week at this special place situated right on the foreshore. The weather was superb and we pretty much lived on the deck when we were not fishing, diving, swimming or kayaking. The seafood was plentiful and throroughly enjoyed. The ample flat off-road parking for two boats was a real plus for our group as were the two kayaks made available for our use by the owners.
