Pohutukawa Lodge is stunning. Private setting, nice & clean with lots of open space and the views are breathtaking. The house is fully equipped, comfortable beds, loved the huge freestanding bath & the studio is ideal for those older kids. The lakefront is straight across the road and the best spot to swim is within walking distance.. It's a nice scenic drive into Rotorua. We had a wonderful 4 day stay & I would definitely recommend the Lodge to friends & family. Overseas travelers who love trout fishing, water skiing, trekking this is the ideal spot to stay. We plan to revisit next year.

We spent a wonderful 10 days at Pohutokawa Lodge. We had family come to stay with us and it was just ideal. Lovely, spacious living areas, superb decking with views over Lake Tarawera to die for! As it was the middle of winter the log burner was a focal point in the lounge, keeping us cosy, and the table tennis table in the garage got lots of use! Loved spending time in the well appointed kitchen area. It was an ideal base for the lovely hikes around the Blue Lake and through the stunning Redwood Forest. A holiday to treasure!

Being our first time in NZ it was exactly how we imagined our experience here. Mt Tarawera has been such a fantastic sight. Thank you so much for your hospitality. We love it here.

What an unbelievably relaxing week. We loved every second. Beautifully appointed accommodation- thank you, very thoughtful. And an incredible location - breathtaking view from the house, especially in the morning with the mist rising off the lake.

It was really easy being there with kids, too, (ages 2, 6 and 9) as the house is well set-up for them.

The local walks around the lake were fabulous.

Will be telling everyone to come here! And we can’t wait to come back. We all wished we didn’t have to leave. Lake Tarawera is a gem.

The view was amazing, the peace and quiet devine and the little touches of personalised toiletries appreciated. Was a pleasure to deal with the owners and the whole process was problem-free and most welcome for overseas visitors.

Well done Mike and Jeanne!

The perfect holiday home

Pohutukawa Lodge is modern and classy and has everything that a holiday home needs – kayaks, table tennis table, games & toys, books & DVDs, bikes, Sky TV, BBQ on the deck, gorgeous views, art work, cooking facilities, 2 bathrooms (1 had a big bath) and 3 bedrooms (there is also a sleep out, so it can cater for up to 11 people). This place is a bargain at $170, for 1-7 people. The sleep out is extra. Kids would love it here. Just be aware that the driveway is steep, but it’s nothing to worry about.

There was only 2 of us, but we didn’t feel like the house swallowed us. We felt so comfortable here and loved our stay. It was quiet and the perfect place to wind down from the rest of our trip (visiting the Cooks Islands and hiring a motorbike to explore the Coromandel Peninsula).

We bought groceries in Roturua (20 mins away – the closest supermarket) and ate in, watched Sky TV and kayaked on Lake Tarawera in the rain (5min walk with the kayaks) during our 2 night stay. The ready made fire place was lovely to warm against. The kitchen had basic ingredients and was decked out perfectly for a chef. The linen in the bedrooms was glorious and loved the Pohutukawa Lodge personalized toiletries too.

This place is a fabulous retreat for a larger group or families (4-6 people would be ideal). It is perfect if you want the convenience of Roturoa (without the smell or high cost of accommodation) and you wish for peace and quiet while being able to work off that ‘holiday food’. We’ll certainly be back, but next time there will be a group of us.

Thanks Mike - we loved our stay!

Hi
We have stayed in many different places over the years and this one is simply outstanding.
From the lovely house and view, tranquil setting, beautiful bird song, stylish and comfortable fittings especially the bath, wonderful art work, heaps of space etc etc to multitude of personal extras that make for a special holiday eg bikes, kayaks, activity tips, great coffee, linen, towels, toiletries, rubbish removal, boat trailer clamp, etc it is a real treat to stay here. Mike and Jeanne have created a wonderful haven that is far more than just a holday house..we have booked straight away for twice the length of time next year.
If you want to treat an overseas visitors or South Islanders to a stunning North Island experience you will really struggle to find anything better.
