We had a very relaxing stay, the gardens are immaculate and very peaceful, hosts very friendly and welcoming, and the bach is stunning with hand made furniture and pottery, and an extremely comfy bed! Would highly recommend to others.

Beautiful accommodation, well placed and well-equipped. This was the best placed we stayed during our trip to New Zealand. The owners are welcoming and thoughtful, providing us with some fresh eggs and veg from the garden and with a warm welcome. We loved it and would recommend it unreservedly.

The rental accommodation is in the large gardens of the owners who also have a pottery workshop (great stuff, definitely worth a browse) but feels private with it's own deck and BBQ/ outside eating area. It has been well-designed so that the property does not look onto the owners' and vice versa. It is well placed between Takaka (about 15 minutes drive with lots of shops, cafes, bars and crafty/ arty places - even has a cinema if the weather is absolutely terrible!) and Collingwood (which is 5 minutes away, much smaller but has a small museum, couple of cafes, small supermarket, petrol station and where you can arrange tourist trips to Farewell Spit etc.). It's just a few minutes drive from the Mussell Inn (although we didn't go this time) and Golden Bay is a beautiful area to explore.

The space is very generous for two (as we were) but affordable for a couple and compares well with the price of other properties. There are two bedrooms, one is included in the main living area, the other is a large, separate bedroom with sliding glass doors onto a deck - a peaceful place for morning coffee listening to the sound of the stream running through the gardens). There is ample space for one couple and plenty of space for two couples or a family. The kitchen is new and has two hot rings, a large fridge freezer and just outside on the deck a great gas BBQ and oven. The bathroom has a good shower, and outside are two baths if you want to bathe under the stars with a glass of wine! Inside there is a TV, DVD and stereo system. It is been recently renovated so everything feels clean and new.

We stayed for 3 nights but could have enjoyed at least a week here, for relaxing, day tripping, hiking and eating/drinking at home and/ or out. There was lots we didn't see and we hope to come back. Paul and Robin are wonderful hosts and we would have loved more pottery if we could have brought it back to the UK with us. Sad to leave.

This place was fantastic. Beautiful peaceful gardens. Private. We loved the tasteful decor and wooden furniture. Odourless composting toilet, huge bathroom area. Gas barbeque. We had been planning to eat at the Mussell Inn but it was so nice here that we stayed in. Comfortable bed. Good no fuss modern cooking facilities, coffee plunger and proper coffee - lots of nice touches. Hammock, couches, cute stream.... Blueberries were in season and could be bought . Winspear's own beautiful pottery in use - feels very special.

Overall a fantastic hideaway. Felt like a real holiday, not just a suburban villa that had moved to Golden Bay.
