Aotea Harbour is on the West Coast just over an hour from Hamilton. South of Raglan and a ten minute drive to Kawhia. This small seaside community of about 60 baches is reminiscent of New Zealand beach holidays of old. No palatial ‘holiday homes' here. This small 2 1/2 bedroom bach is 30 metres from the high tide giving a fantastic view of beach, harbour, across the water to the spectacular huge sand dunes and stunning West Coast sunsets.Totally relax in the surroundings or walk along the beach out to the heads and bar or trek further along Ocean Beach and dig your own hot pool in the sand at low tide. These pools can also be reached by car via Kawhia which also has a good local museum and great fish and chips. Aotea has good safe swimming and enough sand at low tide to fly a kite. Have a go at hooking a kingfish from the beach or bring your boat and explore the upper harbour; set a flounder net or catch a snapper. Horse treks available locally. Great winter retreat or summer family beach holiday.

We stayed in mid winter...it was such a beautiful location. Early morning sunrises and the view are really sublime. The bach itself was well equipped and quite spacious. Very peaceful and an easy drive from Kawhia.

Stunning views and ever changing weather right on the harbour front is a primo location. Lovely, easy walk from bach along beach and friendly waves from the locals. I loved the reclining chairs and foot stools.... felt rather luxurious in these. Will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Thanks Phil for the use of your fabulous bach, it really is waterfront the views are magnificient. Didnt have any luck with the fishing but it didnt matter it was so relaxing just sitting on the deck. This bach has everything you could possibly want. What an amazing tv that is not only a television but is also a radio, plays dvds & cds. You couldnt wish for a quieter more peaceful place to recharge your batteries. Our little dog Pepe enjoyed the freedom as well. Thanks again Phil we will be back sometime.

Facilities are more than adequate and when you leave you don't have to do a big clean as the cleaner comes in for you. Can really recommend it.

We stayed two nights where we had 4 seasons in 2 days. On the first wintery blustery night the cabin was warm and comfortable. We sat on the couch on the deck overlooking the water.
A fishing rod is a MUST, we forgot ours but the owner lent us his for which we were very grateful. The catch consisted of a crab, a sprat, a small kahawai and a small snapper, all caught from the front lawn!! we didnt work up the courage to use the kayaks but probably will in summer
The local fish and chip shop is actually the best we have ever tasted! we had it twice!
Dont be put off by it being winter, its goregous. this is a place where you can go to lose track of time, where the only thing you live by is the tide.

we will be back to this lovely bach, we cant speak highly enough of it, or its lovely owner who went out of his way to help us and make our stay enjoyable

Great little hideaway right on the beach. We soon settled in and had a relaxing Easter Break. My dogs enjoyed the beach which went on for miles and the views were lovely. Was great to be able to take the dogs with their beds along and they could hang out around the bach with no cars tearing along - they totally enjoyed their bit of freedom too and were snoozing all the way home in the car. The locals were really friendly too.
Definately recommend for a chilled out break - I'll be back one day!

The cottage could best be described as a real 'Kiwi Bach'. It is superbly situated beside the water's edge. The cottage is very comfortable and well appointed. What could be more idyllic than sitting on the verandah sipping a glass of wine, reading a good book and watching the tides come and go. For the more energetic there is fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming and walking.
If you run out of provisions Kawhia is only 10km away. Alternatively you can try the gourmet takeaways from just around the corner.
For anyone that wants a relaxing holiday a stay at this cottage is a'must do'.
