We stayed three nights at Hautakerekere Cabin and had a awesome time. Being a family of 2 adults and 5 kids (aged from 10 yrs up) getting away from home on time is always a challenge, however Jeff was kind enough to guide us to the cabin in the dark. The track in to the cabin was off road and amazing in the dark through all the trees, the kids loved it. The Cabin was clean and tidy on arrival and the fire heated the cabin (and hot water) very efficiently, it actually got so hot that we had the door and windows open. Jeff provided a big bag of kindling, pinecones and paper to make starting the fire nice and easy. The bunks were comfy and the toilet and shower were more than adequate. We spent time biking, walking and horse trekking and were generally in awe of how bueatiful the scenery is around Peel Forest and its surrounds. Jeff was very kind and very helpful, for example he was happy to supply a bike pump when one of the kids had taken our one out of the pack! There was a low ropes course just on the door step that the kids loved. We were reluctant to leave. I highly recommend this accommodation, it sits within a beautiful stand of populars with podocarp forests a mere five minute walk away. Was a real treat we will definitely be back.

We stayed for a night with our three kids (5, 3, & 1) and had a great time. The cabin was one of two new cabins, and is surrounded by native bush and a selection of short and long walks not too far away. We didn't even get a chance to explore down by the river.

The facilities are very good with a solar shower that is just like a normal shower, small kitchen, great fire and the place is seriously well insulated and double glazed.

The front of the lodge will be much better in the future once the grass has grown back in the clearing area. It will become a great play around space for kids I am sure, though at the moment is a bit bare and barren.

We will be back for sure in the future along with some other friends and kids I am sure.

We stayed here two nights with our 4 month old boy. It was a great weekend away! The cabin is like a luxurious back-country hut. It has a small kitchen, fridge, bbq, shower and electricity, but it still has the feeling of a remote hut. It is double glazed and probably insulated, so we didn't even need the fireplace.
It does sleeps eight people, however it would be a bit of a squeeze in the single room cabin.
The 5 minute walk to the cabin through native forest was even possible with a buggy, and there is also 4WD access.
The side of the cabin looks out over the strawbale cabin and right next door is a similar cabin. Also the ecolodge is only a few minutes walk away. This takes away a little bit of the remote feeling, but overall it's still pretty good.
There are plenty of walks in the area to suit most people.
All in all, we definitely recommend the place and we'll probably be back some time in the future.
