A very special place, with characteristics such as; its peaceful quality, the wild coastline, mountain views, lagoon, white herons and kiwi, and forest backdrops. They contrast and complement the glacial and commercial focus of Franz Josef were restaurants, grocery, fuel etc. are available only 20 minutes away. Okarito and the West Coast as a whole offers an unparalleled convergence of natural environments combined with a casual lifestyle.

The entire region surrounding Okarito is permanently protected by Westland National Park and Kiwi Sanctuary. Local activities include coastal and bush walks, kayaking, fishing, white baiting, kiwi tours, and boat tours on Okarito Lagoon. In Franz Josef, flights, glacier walks and hot pools. Absolutely great stay and excellent communication! The place itself was in the perfect location, a short walk to the beach. Having the fire was such a treat too! We will definitely return.

Excellent place to stay. Good beds, great kitchen with everything you need, and the windows have mesh to stop the sandflys. We have stayed there before and will stay there again. Okarito is a great place to stay for several days. Lots of walks.
