A beautiful bright house surrounded by lovely lush bush. A floating deck juts out into the trees and would be wonderful to lounge on in the summer. We had rain but even so, any sun that appeared came shinning through the generous windows and warmed the place up (the fire place helped at night, so good!) The amenities are basic but more than enough and are what you should expect for self-sustaining island living!(I only write this to avoid disappointment for those who may expect more).

An amazing place to rest up Deborah catered for me very last minute and picked me up from the wharf and kindly took me to this airy, light, open, simple, extremely clean and obviously loved, in all the right ways, studio. She gave me details of all the local walks and nearby treasures and explained how the eco-systems of the home work, which will be novel for many but to be embraced by all - many a useful lesson and it was a delight to have so much natural light flow in (and so much warmth) that I didn't need to even look to turn lights on. Neat books, an unbelievable comfy bed and lovely artwork - all embedded in a thick forest, by the beach. Suited me perfectly and will come back again.

Deborah is a great host, she was really helpful organising a night at the backpackers first as I booked last minute. The place is tranquil and restful and has everything you need for a few days. NB there is no fridge and you need to take salt water ice in with you or take a camp fridge don't know how that would go in summer but it was ok once I found the ice at the fishing shop. The house is really warm and cosy no heater or fire needed and the surrounding bush and beaches are beautiful. I stayed for 3 nights it is safe and secure. The eco toilet was a bit of a shock as I didn't realise I would have to empty it each day? So if you are ok with no flush and no fridge you will love it. I will be back as all the great stuff about no frills living is worth the extra effort, it reminds you what simple living does for the soul. Byo tea towels FYI. And boil the water (didn't see that note until the end) so will bring a filter jug next time. All the locals are lovely and friendly and hiring a car for a couple of days is well worth it. Have a meal at the local sports and fishing club everyone is very welcoming. For fresh organic fruit eggs and vegies okiwipassion@farmside.co.nz they will deliver if you contact them ahead of time, Caity Endt is the owner great to visit as well.
