About this Holiday House

Port After Stormie Seas is a traditional kiwi bach built in the late 1930s by a family now in its fourth generation of usage. Located in Cockle Cove, Bay of Many Coves. Access is by boat only to this beautiful part of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Travel to Cockle Cove on your own boat or on one of a number of regular daily launch services. Travel time is only 30 minutes by launch from Picton. The land originally intended to be a dairy farm was purchased in 1925 to preserve the original virgin native bush in the valley of this popular anchorage. Sheltered from the prevailing northerly, this two bedroom cottage has a wonderful view out into the bay, is light and sunny, child-and family-friendly. It is one of only three family homes in 25 acres of native bush with bush walks and rocky streams to explore. The cottage is right on the Queens Chain so only 20 paces to the safe swimming beach. There is a floating jetty for landing and free use of a dinghy, kayaks and life jackets. Take a trip back to the past and enjoy the simple pleasures. Spend your days swimming, lazing around in a boat or on the beach, or just taking time out on the deck with a book or glass of wine. Keep an eye out in case a pod of dolphins or orcas visit the bay. Watch and listen to the native birdlife including the curious Weka, Tui, Korimako, Riroriro, Kereru, Kotare, Oyster Catcher, Gannet, White-faced Heron and more. For the more energetic, take a walk up through the bush to the waterfall, scramble further up the stream for more or walk to Milton Bay, across the saddle to Dryden Bay and up the ridge along snake point. Catch your own dinner – not far from the jetty are blue cod, snapper and scallops. With no TV, spend your evenings reading or playing board games and cards. Once dark falls, take a gentle evening stroll over the bridge or behind the cottage to see glow worms; and for stargazers, admire the clear night sky away from the city lights. Local launch services can be booked to take you to some of the nearby attractions including the historic Ship Cove. Under kiwi tradition guests are expected to keep and leave the place clean and tidy by mid-day on your day of departure. Guests to provide own linen and towels. If for any reason, it is not clean on arrival, we ask guests to contact us so we can arrange to rectify it. Please adhere to the boating regulations and respect others.

The cove, jetty, beach, water toys and access to Queen Charlotte Sound is fantastic BUT the Cottage was dirty and damp. We would not rent again.

Another lovely stay at Cockle Cove. Lots of time in and on the water, fishing, walking the tracks, glow worms, phosperecence, star gazing and wild life watching. So peaceful. Love it. Thank you!
