Great place to stay in Devonport. Close to everything, a five minute walk to the ferry. The apt. had all that we needed. I enjoyed sitting outside on the patio in the garden. Quiet street, lovely area. Great communication beforehand with Gillian and David. Gillian was lovely, didn't get to meet David but of course he must be lovely as well! While I enjoy walking around and exploring large cities (Auckland) I prefer a quite nights sleep with open windows and fresh air. This place is perfect for that. The ferry takes one right to the train station so it worked well for us to stay in Devonport and catch the Northern Explorer train to Wellington the day we left.

Looking for a place to stay in charming Devenport, I believe I found the best value B&B in town.
David and Gillian welcomes you with warmth and true sens of hospitality. Their house is situated in the heart of Devonport, in a quiet area and 5 minutes walk from the Wharf where city ferries leave regularly.
The room facing a small garden, is very spacious, the bed confortable and the bathroom immaculate. I work in the Travel Industry, I will recommend to all visitors I am sending to New Zealand to stop and rest a few nights at David and Gillian's house before starting their journey through the North and the South Island.
David and Gillian are both teaching yoga, If I had read their pamphlet before maybe I would have taken their "introduction to your YOGA practice"

We had a great time there. After booking for the beginning of our jouney we came back for the last days auf our trip, because it is a great place to enjoy AKL. The ferry is close. Beach and waterfront-walk. Nice Cafés just 2 blocks away and very quite.
Modern and tidy bathroom with towels and eco Shampoo/Soap.
We were travelling with a baby and the hosts even provided a baby cot and a baby bathtub.
I'd love to stay a couple more days longer...

A terrific array of options at one's door step - a winning combination having a seaside village to swim and shop at, or just sleep and eat well, being only a ferry ride from the heart of Auckland too.

If you are going to the Wairarapa, my brother and his wife have a B and B place called Triffits in Carterton. It's set in farm land very close to Carterton.
