Miro cottage is a one-bedroom cottage on the shore of the beautiful Waimea Inlet, near Mapua village.
Located in the heart of the Nelson/Tasman region, surrounded by the vineyards of Nelson’s wine country, this is an ideal base for day trips around the Nelson region and to the Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, and Nelson Lakes National Parks.
The cottage has an open-plan living space with large windows, expansive mountain and water views, and a fully-equipped kitchen. The bedroom has a king size bed.
There are places to sit outside and catch the sunshine whatever time of day.
Our five acre property is a mix of organic vineyard, fruit trees, gardens, and regenerating native New Zealand bush that stretches around the estuary shore. We have two other cottages, Karaka and Rata, on the peninsula. Matahua Cottages can accommodate up to eight people.
The Waimea Inlet is famous for its wading and migratory birds: pied stilts, oyster-catchers, bar tailed godwits, herons, royal spoonbills, and more can be seen from the decks and gardens.
The Nelson/Tasman region has so many things to do: visiting wineries, markets, galleries, and artists’ studios, and we are just 2 km from the Great Taste Tasman Cycle Trail. There is a wide range of outdoor pursuits to choose from, including hiking, cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, and fishing. There are also many beautiful rivers and beaches for swimming and picnicking. Canyoning, caving, kite boarding, and sky diving are options for the adventurous.
Should you prefer to stay in and relax, the cottage is perfectly equipped for the simple pleasures of a real kiwi bach holiday with good books, board games, barbecue, brazier, hammock, and endless views to gaze at. On a full tide you can explore the quiet estuary by kayak or paddle board. The cottage has a woodburner and is very cosy in winter.
There is good cellphone coverage and free Wifi for those who want to stay in touch with the outside world.
Whilst secluded and private, the cottage is also easily accessible to Nelson; just 20 minutes (24 km) from Nelson airport and less than 5 minutes to the coastal village of Mapua. Mapua’s thriving wharf area has cafés and restaurants as well as galleries representing local artists.
We cater to adults and children aged 12 years and over.
