Historic Devonport is 20 minutes by bus/car and from here you can experience a 10 minute scenic ferry trip from Devonport across to Auckland City operating every 30 minutes. At Devonport the views from Mount Victoria and North Head of Auckland city, the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf are spectacular.
