Special Amenities

Sliding doors off two bedrooms and the living room open onto a large sunny deck. Sun pours into the living room which looks out onto a spacious lawn and large garden. Large garage to store beach and river "toys" or walking gear. The section is well fenced to keep "small" people safe.

The Retreat is close to the Akitio River which is great for swimming, fishing, kayaking, waterskiing ... At the rivermouth surf casting for Kahawai is common. Whitebait run in season. On the beach surfing, swimming, launching a longline, space for land-yachts or basking in the sun.... Easy launch for fishing boats off the beach. Akitio Boat Club tractors available for hire if needed. Forgotten something? Visit the Akitio Store for basic supplies, takeaways, coffee....

We had a great stay at Akitio Retreat. Well equipped and fun place to spend a few days among nature. Great option for large families.

This is a little gem in the middle of nowhere.... a rural living bliss...very handy location - close to the river & beach.. Excellent getaway option for a group who will enjoy the beach during the day and stay indoors after sun down...Lovely curated lawns with citrus fruits growing all around...Jenny was a breeze to deal with - very clear & prompt comms. The house is well equipped but can do with some regular maintenance. ..We would definitely stay again.

Akitio Retreat would be an excellent place for a large family or group. The house is well equipped and very close to the beach/ town. Jenny, our host was an excellent communicator throughout the booking process. The house doesn't match the location on google maps so was a little difficult to find in the dark but it is next to the large Akitio sign made of rusted steel beams. Everything was excellent we would definitely stay again.
