We are just 12 kilometres from Lake Wanaka and in the centre of the Lakes District of Central Otago. We are located about 30 minutes from two major ski fields - Treble Cone and Cardrona.
This new and spacious character alpine cottage is fully equipped with modern appliances (stereo, video, microwave, dishwasher, laundry, Air Conditioning). The cottage bedroom has a double and single bed .The single bed can be used in the lounge.. Free Wifi Internet is
included. . A typical comment from our guest book is "this is an outstanding cottage, cosy, tastefully decorated and thoughtfully well equipped. Together with warm hospitality this has perfected our holiday in New Zealand".

A well stocked shop is within walking distance, as is the local Hawea Hotel, which has a seven day restaurant. Hosts are Marjorie Goodger, who has had a career in hotel management, and her sister Sheila & Brian McCaughan from a farming background.

Should you wish your log fire will be burning on your return from skiing.

This is a family concern which provides visitors with the benefits of blending personal and detailed attention with privacy and relaxation.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Bellbird Cottage and had the most wonderful few days there. The owners made us feel so comfortable and very much at home. All the extra touches, like fresh fruit, eggs, milk, bread, etc., as well as the laundry facilities were so much appreciated and the fresh flowers were a real treat. The views from the cottage were absolutely beautiful and added to the peace and tranquility of this special place.

The owners, Marge, Sheila & Brian were such gracious hosts that we were sad to leave Bellbird Cottage and hopefully we will be able to return someday. We can not say enough great things about Bellbird Cottage and would highly recommend it. This was truly one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand.

This has to be the loveliest cottage in New Zealand! The owners are so friendly, they've thought of everything you could need, it has all the mod cons but is really charming and rustic at the same time. The views out of every window are stunning and is so peaceful and cosy. Loved coming back from snowboarding or hiking and find the fire already roaring. It's really close to Wanaka and Lake Hawea is beautiful.

After struggling to find affordable cottage accommodation for 2 people in the Lake Wanaka area we came across Bell Bird Cottage and are now so glad we did! A beautiful, cosy cottage with gorgeous views from every window of the fields and mountains around Lake Hawea. It has plenty of space for 2 or 3 people and is more than fully equipped with everything one could need, down to a thermos flask perfect for those chilly winter walks! The wood burning stove keeps the cottage lovely and warm, and Marge offered to light it every day so that it was burning when we got in in the afternoon after skiing or walking...... fantastic! Marge, Sheila and Brian are all very friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome.... we will certainly be recommending this gem of a cottage to our friends!

Bellbird Cottage was the last stop in our 7 week long vacation exploring New Zealand. Reading the on line description on our computer in Canada we knew it was going to be special. We pulled in and immediately felt at home as we were greeted like long lost travellers and after a tour of the immaculate cozy cottage we were ecstatic! The mountain views from the windows, the pristine lake at the end of the street, tranquility of the area are all pieces to this jem! Golfing, great restaurants, shopping, tramping are just a short distance away. Marjorie, Sheila and Brian were warm and generous hosts. We look forward to returning soon!!

We so look forward to what has become our annual christmas and new year celebrations with our family, AND our new family, at BellBird Cottage. Well, it definately has become our second and very much loved home, where we are welcomed with the greatest enthusiasm, year, after year. This year was fantstic, with the weather being so kind, the lake as beautiful as ever, and the family unchanged. We have decided it must be the Lake Hawea Water, to keep our hosts looking and being such fantastic hosts and dear friends to boot. The cottage is like a home away from home, and the larder always stocked, and with home made jam and goodies very much enjoyed. We stay two weeks EVERY year, and have never failed to come away refreshed, pampered and, well, spoilt quite rotten. :-)

A most wonderful haven that my husband found for us about eight years ago, and we just adore coming home to rest in, every christmas, new year, and occassionally, in between. Rating of 5 +++ and as many stars as can fit...

Thank you so much Marge, Brian and Sheila. Yet again we had a fantastic 6 day stay. As always your hospitality was first rate and the cottage was as lovely and comfortable as ever. It was a tremondous base to explore the region and skifields. A perfect alternative to Wanaka's hussle and bussle. The kids had a really good time and like us can't wait to come back. We can highly recommend Bellbird Cottage to anyone intersted in visiting this area. Thanks

Absolutely grand time at this quiet cottage near Wanaka. Great base to do Queenstown, wine/fruit valley near Cromwell, Arrowtown, and the Makarora valley from. Friendly hosts, rural setting, cozy cottage--couldn't ask for a better South Island home away from home. Nice touches like milk/eggs in the fridge waiting for us, and advice on local activities set this cottage stay apart from others. Thanks to Marge, Sheila, and Brian for a great 3 days.

We explored NZ for 5 months and were looking for a good place to take a break from travelling and to explore an area that we knew had many possibilities. We booked Bellbird Cottage for 4 weeks and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful with easy access to lots of great walking areas, but still only a short drive to the 'bright lights' of Wanaka. The cottage is spacious and very comfortable, with a very well-equipped kitchen which we really appreciated after weeks of backpacker hostels! But best of all were the hosts, Marge, Sheila and Brian who kept us well supplied with local information and fresh veggies. Our time here was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

Marjorie promised it would be just like home - and it was, with some lovely added extras - like the absolutely marvelous view, flowers, home-grown vegies and the peace and quiet. It's very convenient to all the sights around Wanaka and the region, plus it's so comfortable (efficient heating, full kitchen & laundry). We'll definitely be recommending it to others. We would rate the Bellbird Cottage at Lake Hawea as one of the very best accommodations we stayed at on our three-month holiday in Australia and New Zealand. We have been fortunate enough to stay at Bellbird cottage for several Christmas holidays, and each visit feels like coming home. The hospitality of Marge, Sheila, and Brian is fantastic, and so very welcoming on every occasion. The cottage is so cool, always spotless, and extremely well equipped. We have come to the cottage in summer, and recently have had a lovely break in winter. Fantastic, with the fire heating the cottage beautifully, the larder stocked, and the warmth and friendliness second to none. This is such an awesome place to relax and unwind, so private with beautiful views from every window! Lake Hawea is a very special place right on the back doorstep, for fishing, walking, boating, rabbit shooting, reading, or just relaxing with a glass of wine. No better place to be! A + + + !!

Had a fantastic stay, the cottage is spotlessly clean and fully equipped in every way. It is warm, spacious and very comfortable with all modcons, like home away from home. Close to shops and restaurants and near beautiful lake Hawea. Our hosts were extremely hospitable and had a lot of local knowledge to share with us. The cottage is however private and set away from the two main houses on the property so more often than not you don't see anyone. The house is surrounded by well kept gardens and has beautiful views of farms, mountains and pasture. There is a log burner, cd player, dvd player, full washing and drying facilities and complete domestic kitchen that is spacious and well thought out.
We left Bellbird cottage with the knowledge that we wanted to return as soon as possible and can highly recommend it to anyone.

The cottage itself was clean, well equipped and extremely comfortable. There were lots of details which were a pleasant suprise such as fresh flowers etc. We loved the view from the master bedroom window.
