About this Holiday House

Offering the styling and furnishings of a boutique b&b at a fraction of the cost, this self contained cottage is ideal for couples looking for a romantic get-away or central base for exploring the Nelson region. Only ten minutes walk to Nelson city centre, the cottage is a private, peaceful and cosy home away from home. Nestled between hills and Nelson city centre, this historic cottage is located in the safe, friendly residential neighbourhood of The Wood. Retaining the original facade from 1866, the cottage has been lovingly renovated to provide a welcoming environment and includes a heat pump (for days when the cottage isn't warmed by Nelson's sunshine). The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with luxurious linens and electric blankets. The living room has a smart TV, Freeview, DVD, CD player and bluetooth speaker. There is a collection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for guests’ enjoyment and unlimited fibre WiFi access is provided free of charge. The well equipped kitchen includes pantry basics such as tea, coffee, flour, seasonings, olive oil, tin foil, cling film etc. In addition to the essentials, experience a real taste of Nelson with the Nelson Pantry – a selection of locally made products for you to enjoy during your stay. Items include Pic’s Peanut Butter, Tasman Ridge olive oil, Sublime locally roasted plunger coffee, dukkah, local chutneys and jams and other treats! A sunroom with dining table and sofa overlooks the hills and lush private sunny garden. The cottage is perfectly situated to explore Nelson’s rich array of boutique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants a pleasant ten minute walk away, including Hopgoods Restaurant - winner of Cuisine's Best Casual Dining award. This is a great base from which to explore the wider region – Mapua, Kaiteriteri and the Abel Tasman National Park - taking in wineries, galleries, beaches and beautiful countryside. Closer to home is a dairy, post office, Bobby Franks Cafe and the Sprig and Fern tavern (a tiny pub with old-fashioned hospitality, open fires, boutique beers and board games). Take a walk along the beautiful Maitai River, stroll through the Queen's Gardens and Chinese Gardens, visit the Suter Art Gallery or Founders Historic Park and climb to the Centre of New Zealand for magnificent views over Nelson city. The name Strupak Cottage (pronounced stroo-pack), is the Gaelic word for "tea, scones and conversation" offered to passing travellers. If Strupak Cottage is booked, or you require a larger property please take a look at my other homes in The Wood, Riversong (2 bedrooms on the banks of the Maitai River), The Nest in The Wood (2 bedroom detached home) and Lemon Tree Cottage (3 bedroom family home next to the Centre of New Zealand).

We had a very pleasant stay in this little gem with comfortable bed and well stocked kitchen. It was a 10 minute walk to the Suter Art Gallery and another 10 minutes to the centre of town for shops and cafes for the iconic flat white. Would definitely recommend a stay.
