Mararoa Cottage is clean, cosy, peaceful and private and could be the perfect base for your Fiordland stay. Relax and enjoy the beautiful rural setting just 15 minutes drive from Te Anau and 15 from Manapouri. The well equipped kitchenette has such gorgeous views over the Mararoa River and Takitimu Mountains that washing the dishes will be a pleasure! There are two sheltered areas of outdoor seating, both with lovely views. One of the most common comments in our visitor book is, 'We wish we had booked longer!"

Special Amenities

Enjoy our lovely UV treated rainwater. The cottage has a basin, detergent and a drying rack for hand washing items, and there is a good laundromat in town. I will happily do washing for guests except when water supplies are low (when we too use the laundromat). Great sunsets! The cottage is small but has a lofty ceiling so feels spacious. Simply lovely rural views. Local walks. Plant and bird ID books. Good cellphone coverage and adequate WIFI.

Mararoa Cottage is situated near the Southern Scenic Route. Doubtful Sound Departure point 12km. Milford Sound 2 hours drive. Lake Te Anau, 20km, Lake Manapouri, 12km. A perfect spot for bird watching, fishing, hiking, or just relaxing. Our cottage has local walk guides and maps to help you make the most of your visit.

We couldn’t recommend Mararoa Cottage more highly. It’s comfortable, well equipped and has a beautiful setting overlooking mountains and grazing deer (when we were there). So quiet and peaceful. The drive to Manapouri for the Doubtful Sound cruise is under 15 minutes and Te Anau is also close. Catherine and Paul are extremely welcoming hosts.

Mararoa Cottage is a very Tranquil place where you can enjoy the bird life and look down the valley at the serene landscape which abounds with farm animals such as Deer,Sheep, Cattle etc. With the Takitimu Mountains as a back drop the Mararoa River is one of many great rivers in the area to fish for Rainbow and Brown Trout. A 15 min drive to Manapouri or Te Anau gives you many adventures for walks,boat trips,animal viewing and access to the beautiful Fiordland Sounds. Mararoa cottage is modern and has all the amenities you would need along with plenty of indoor and outdoor space to relax in privacy. Thankyou Catherine for being great host
